C4 BBMF Do I have a right to be disappointed?

Post by steviebee155 »

Hello,
I bought the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight version of the C4 in the recent sale. I particularly liked the back plate with isignia and the "numbers" of the planes that make up the memorial flight.

Ok I dont look at the back of the watch when I'm wearing it but its good to know that its there.
The version I received has a standard CW logo back plate whereas the photo on the website had isignia etc. and no mention that it would be different.

I get the nearly new thing and that they are not always the same as the pictures but for me the inscribed backplate was supposed to be an integral part of the watch. The more I type the more I realise I will be returning this.

Caveat emptor next time a c4 bbmf turns up in a sale.

Yes, you do have a right to be disappointed.

The website is the only way CW customers get to see what they are buying before parting with their money, yet it would seem the company refuse to make sure they are showing customers exactly what they will be getting.

I bought a C7 MkI last year based entirely on it being shown as having the original Christopher Ward logo, but it turned up with the CHR.WARD logo so back it went...

(Ironically, I was going to buy a/the BBMF so, depending on how many there were you may have beaten me to it!)

I would be disappointed too. I looked at that watch and regretted not buying it - but that was with the inscribed backplate. The fact it didn't have that should have been disclosed in my opinion. Have you tried contacting customer service?

I wonder if someone returned it with personalisation engraving so CW swapped it out.

it should be a numbered edition (only made 100) so you would want the number on the back at the least. did you get it in the nearly new or the 50% military sale?

Equally they may have made it up out of spares as they've done in the past*, Ltd numbers or not.

*I think it was the merc or HRDC version of the c11

Yes you have every right.
CW seem to be dropping the ball of late with cock ups with orders and delivery.
Check with email to wera using forum email for her at the very least.

That said my ad astra has no serial number.

Are you sure there were only 100 made?

My mistake - it was the 50% miltary sale. And the number is 175!
I would be mortified if this was my business. But I'm pretty sure we have had this discussion on numerous occasions.
Pleased that smithy got the right one.
And I am wearing a c7 with the CHR WARD logo when it was "advertised" as CW logo - I remember that saga too.
Oh well, first world problems but Christopher Ward will have to come up with something special for me to part with any more of my hard earned.
Thanks for reading. Be lucky.

my bad must have been 200 not 100. i knew it was quite a low edition number. if its from the military not the nearly new id definitely be sending it back then. it needs the caseback in my eyes. did it come on leather or bracelet by the way?

I came pretty close to ordering one of those, I really like the look, just wasn't enamored my the past CW quartz that I had so held off, also, I'm not a Brit, so I thought it would be a little weird. Maybe not. I ordered the C30 instead.

I'd be disappointed about the back too. I probably would keep it because I like the front so much and it's not my nature to complain, especially knowing the answer would be they probably have no original backs left. I know many here would send it back though.
