Is my collection 'complete'?

Post by Clach77 »

I'm now at twenty one watches and the watch boxes are full. And the drawer that holds them is full too. Therefore twenty one watches is as many as I can have.

I've been looking at the new C60 COSC, and have here watches in the sales corner to part fund it. But I'm having second thoughts as I rather like all the watches I have. I may end up withdrawing the C65 and C60, just selling the C8 which I seldom wear. So have I got to the point where I have stopped collecting? :o If watches need to go out to bring one in, have I reached the point where I simply like what I have? Wow.
Trying not to buy any more watches...

I am strangely possibly also at this point in my collection....
So I understand how you feel Alex ;)
I'm very happy with my present collection and none will be leaving and I'm at a size that is just about manageable.

I personally think you should hang onto one of the Tridents also, I'd say the C65.

This is scary.
When I started to collect paintings (haven't bought one for a year or two now) a friend told me that I was not a proper collector until I had flogged a couple to trade up.
On that criterion I am a collector of fine art but not of wristwatches.

Fear not. The "satisfied" stage will probably only be a temporary one. No collection is complete.

I always thought the ideal number of watches in a collection could be defined by the equation n+1.

where n = the number of watches in your current collection

21 Wow!

And there was me thinking a max of six so that I don't where the same watch everyday was the optimum number.

31 would give one for every day of the month! I'm not there yet, but think it might happen at some point!

Every now and then I start to think about maybe moving on the odd one from the collection that hasn't had a lot of wear lately. However, as soon as I think about it, I realise I like every watch in the box, and just end up getting the particular watch in question back into a more regular rotation for wearing!

20 seems an ok number, assuming it includes a couple that you are only keeping for sentimental reasons and a couple of beaters, plus say 8-10 in regular use and the others that get worn occasionally.
