Bronze watches and sensitive skin

Post by Murphy20 »

I’ve always fancied a bronze watch, however I have quite sensitive skin. Am I right in thinking that some bronze watches may cause irritation, if skin is particularly sensitive? I like the bronze Sealander, but am apprehensive in case I have a reaction to the lugs/buckle (I can see that the case back is made of steel, so no problems there).

I have sensitive skin (allergies to leather and some types of rubber straps), but I don't have any issues wearing my C60 Bronze. There might be the occasional green mark on the skin from the bronze lugs (not that I can remember any), but there is no irritation.

Thank you, great to get an opinion from someone in a similar position.

I can't comment on CW bronze watches but I have a full bronze Tudor and that hasn't irritated my skin when I've worn it

Thanks, sounds like I’m possibly concerned unnecessarily.

I don't have any allergies, so if the following sounds insensitive (ahem) then apologies:

There are plenty of bronze buckles for sale on ebay. It might be worth buying one and trying it against your skin just to be on the safe side before you commit to purchase. I know there are different grades pf bronze but they are made of the same components, just in different proportions.

I have the same problem, that’s why I did not get the Bronze aquitaine. But @exHowfener s trick is a good way to see if it works. Hope it will work for you, bronze is a nice material!

It’s a great idea. Current thought though is to dive in feet first and if any reaction I’ll pass the watch to my son (who will of course be very happy!)

I realised that I never updated on this post. I’ve now been wearing my (non-CW, admittedly) bronze watch for a month or so and am pleased to report no ill effects at all. Really happy with it too, it’s developing a lovely patina 👍

Sure, the first photo was taken most recently, probably a couple of weeks after I received it. The second was taken just as I was unboxing it (so the case is a lot brighter). It has spent all of its time since on the canvas strap.
