Re: The Definitive Nerd Thread
A Nerd is a person seen as overly intellectual, obsessive, introverted or lacking social skills. Such a person may spend inordinate amounts of time on unpopular, little known, or non-mainstream activities, which are generally either highly technical, abstract, or relating to topics of science fiction or fantasy, to the exclusion of more mainstream activities. Additionally, many so-called nerds are described as being shy, quirky, pedantic, and unattractive.
I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a Nerd in the generally accepted sense.

No, you need to understand the mountain bike gear talk in another thread for that.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Sat Jul 30, 2022 4:32 pm Does understanding anything on this thread indicate nerdishness? If so I’m completely in the clear.

Re: The Definitive Nerd Thread
Been questioning whether to post in this thread (for fear that it sets some expectations and means I might actually have to finish something I start...) but in the vein of openness and nerdiness:
I've been keeping a spreadsheet and a wee graph of the watches I've been wearing this year, because (spoiler alert) stats are interesting: but that in itself isn't too nerdy. You see, I'd rather just use an app for this, but whilst there seems to be a decent one available for iOS, I couldn't find anything for Android...so I figured I'd just build my own (although as a bonus it's actually cross platform, so should work just as well on both!)
It's a long way from finished (and as hinted at above, might never be ) but I'm having fun with it! It's far enough along that it lets you store a collection and a wishlist, but planning to add the ability to track what you're wearing and pull out some graphs by month/year. The beauty is that once you start collecting data, then you've got loads of options of what you can then do with it (track expenditure, profit/loss, cost per wear, most/least worn watches, favourites etc)

Re: The Definitive Nerd Thread
Doesn't everyone have a fully data cabled house, complete with a load of smart home stuff (and a UPS you can't see keeping it all powered when there's a power cut)?
Re: The Definitive Nerd Thread
That wiring is too tidy, clearly this is either a staged photograph or you're some kind of monster

Re: The Definitive Nerd Thread
That’s fantastic!
When I first saw the pic I thought I was looking at a modified beverage fridge that you were using for climate controlled storage for your sneakers. That would be far nerdier than a wired up smart house.
