The Perfect Summer Hat ***NERD ALERT***
Re: The Perfect Summer Hat ***NERD ALERT***
This might well be my favourite thread in quite a while
I seldom wear hats, but do have a strange knack of buying them whilst on holiday, wearing them non-stop, and then losing them in the back of a cupboard somewhere - I suspect it's the Scottish weather just isn't suited to hat wearing, so I have to make the most of it when I'm away.

You need a spreadsheet. You could call it “head check”, or “on my head”!Stif wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 4:22 pm This might well be my favourite thread in quite a while

Simply record:
- when you wear
- if a baseball cap, was it worn peak front, or peak back
- what were the weather conditions
- did anyone comment; positively or negatively
- what clothing and watch did you team the hat with
- which cupboard did you store the hat it afterwards
Should do the trick.

*****WINTER HAT ADDENDUM*****
I found this in a vintage shop for $5 and thought I’d take a chance! It was pretty grubby when I got it, but has cleaned up nicely. The previous owner did quite a bit to shape the crown and the brim in a manner I quite like. It’s got a bit of a tribly look to it or maybe a Bavarian alpine hat. The feather on the side is in rough shape and might need to be replaced. I’ll be quite content to wear this in the winter.

^^^^^ Not sure what the previous owner has done to shape the crown and I’m sure it’s just a trick if the light, but in the third picture down it looks like E.T. with constipation.

Haha! Agreed! It looks better than in photographs. The previous owner has worked a pinch into the crown that doesn’t completely come through in the photos, maybe.

You know, Andrew, if you got a nice black hat we could start a Terry Pratchett Lookalike contest.

The more I look at this thread the more I feel 'The Perfect Nerd ***SUMMER HAT ALERT*** might be more fitting as a title.

My beard might be on borrowed time though. I grow it out once every year or two, live with it for awhile, then typically tire of it. I think I'm moving into the "tire of it" phase already. We'll see.

Re: The Perfect Summer Hat ***NERD ALERT***
After a certain age, I think so!
My dilemma is that the beard I want and the beard I get are two different things. I have visions of looking like George V or Nicholas II with a beard.....I do not. It also doesn't help that my late father-in-law had a beard, and when I grow mine out I start to look like him! Google photos even identified a pic of me as him once. My wife does not like looking at her husband and seeing her dad!

^^^ that's a good looking hat! I like the thick, black, ribbon around the crown.
