New summer release: Kurono Tokyo

Post by thomcat00 »

After the high horology of Hajime Asaoka’s bespoke watches and the “entry level” lux JDM Chrono collections, Kurono Tokyo is launching a more casual line of vintage inspired watches. They look great to me, and I think there are some others here who appreciate these watches The new collection sports 4 color variants, and they are priced below the anniversary or urushi models. Details here: https://kuronotokyo.com/pages/34mm

Very sweet.

Looks like a Japanese version of a Farer; no bad thing.

If only it was somewhat larger on the case width front. :-k :-k

Thanks for sharing. Luckily for me those colors aren’t doing it for me.

Farer was my thought when I saw it too, Guy. This may sound strange coming from me, but 34 mm is a bit small for the modern idiom.

I feel like I’ve ‘bought into’ Karuno Tokyo- without actually (yet) having bought a watch. I love the watches, designs, dials, colours, but I also love the blurb and the ‘vibe’ - those things are harder to explain and may of course just be sophisticated marketing! The new watch are classy and fun at the same time - something I think about the other KT ranges. The whole caboodle has something grail-like about it! I enjoy deciding what colour I would own.

That red/white dial is gorgeous. I'd put it on a darker blue strap though.

Oh I'd love one of these! I quite like the idea of a 34mm watch in the collection, but not a chance I could afford one!

I keep looking at these watches, but I need to stop. I’m afraid I will talk myself into one. The red outline of the central dial calls to my mind that same kind of detail on Hot Wheels die cast cars, of course modeled after the redline tires of ‘60s muscle cars. :p Plus, the various colors are calling….

With 100 watches available in each of the four summer colors, the 34mm line was fully subscribed in under 12 minutes today.

^^^ I sat out this round of the Kurono lottery. Too many wants, too little handy cash. I ponied up for the CWE LE red dial Sealander so that is my summer spending done. I would have liked the red/white or the ochre dials from Kurono. Honestly, any of the four. Or all of them. :p

I did think very hard. But too many recent acquisitions and a reservation about it being a bit small made me pass this time. Like you I think the red / white was the pick of the bunch.

Many thanks for posting.

I'm amazed that there is much of a market for 34mm watches, the dial area probably isn't more than 28mm. As others have said it's very farer(ish). Aside from not being able to read the dial, I'd be concerned this could disappear down the back of the sofa.
