Carrying a huge mobile phone
Being a typical male I don't carry a bag at all times so my phone has to fit on my person somewhere. As phones continue to get bigger while loose fitting trousers show no sign of making a return the tried and tested method of "put it in your pocket" is an increasingly bad option; the wear lines are visible on my trousers already and my next phone will be bigger whether I want that or not because designers say so.
The only other option I've seen is a case which clips over your belt. Could put the phone at the front so it's easy to get to, but I'm guessing sitting down with one there is uncomfortable enough let alone bending further to cycle, so that's not going to work. Clipping it on my side in landscape orientation makes it nearly as long as I am thick but I'm rounded so it will stick out and be annoying while phone in portrait on my side will obstruct a pocket. Putting the phone on my back means I can sit and use my pockets, but that looks like an invitation to thieves and it's not easy to attach something behind your back...
How do people who embraced huge phones long ago carry them?

In the top pocket of my most-worn jacket.
Lots of outdoor clothing seems to have internal phone pockets these days but I’m not as sure about cycling gear. Seems that bum bags went out with the eighties - they’d be quite handy...

Coats are good but I don't wear one indoors at work and summer's coming.
You're right about bum bags, could spin it from back for sitting and cycling to front for convenience when not. They must still be useful to someone, that's a line to investigate further - thanks
You're not wrong, but I don't think anyone tried to cycle with one of those

Personally I haven't embraced 'HUGE'. It has to be able to fit in a trouser pocket comfortably. I have an iPhone SE for that reason - 14cm x 7cm. I don't understand the trend for tablet-sized phones. Anything much bigger than I have mentioned is rucksack or man bag territory. Where phone size is concerned 'less really is more'.suicidal_orange wrote: ↑Sun May 29, 2022 10:27 am How do people who embraced huge phones long ago carry them?

Small bag, job done. Unless I’m carrying a larger one or a backpack, or else a winter coat with myriad zipped pockets.
I do NOT like keys, wallet etc. in trouser pockets.
I usually also have a small folding item in there that fulfils several functions and has half a CW logo on it (not shown).

The last decent pocket sized non-Apple phone was the Sony Xperia XZ1 and 2 Compact range from 5 years ago. The trend of tablet-sized phones has come about by the desire for more content and streaming, and better battery life. If you look at Sony's newer phones, they're still narrow but much longer now to fit a widescreen format for watching movies. Really don't see the point squinting at a phone screne to watch a movie instead of enjoying it on the full screen, either cinema or home.
On the few occcassions I've had to carry a larger phone, it always goes inside a jacket pocket or if it doesn't fit, stick it in whatever work bag I'm carrying where it stays until I've got home / to the office.

Re: Carrying a huge mobile phone
I think bigger phones help older eyes and people who need to look at spreadsheets and stuff, too.
I don’t have a solution. Seems that better ways to carry just add more and more stuff and make it worse.
One thing I will say is if you can, carry your phone in airplane mode. My mentor in engineering school was the head of research for the company that invented cell phones. Also switch them from ear to ear frequently if you have to hold them to your ear.
I hope to get back to where I don’t carry one at all, but it’s going to be years unfortunately.

Looks a bit "Starsky and Hutch" or "James Bond", don't wear it if planning to go on a plane as it might be mis-understood.

Those new folding display phones are ridiculously expensive. I'd rather spend that amount on a watch

Re: Carrying a huge mobile phone
As to phone size?
I am in the small is better. Still making do with an iPhone 5s. I have zero interest in watching films or YouTube etc.. on a phone.
