Re: Special Event Watch Preview - Wednesday, April 23rd

Thanks, Guy. It might be just me getting confused but the timings posted over on CWE do appear to differ. :-k

Re: Special Event Watch Preview - Wednesday, April 23rd

Thanks, Guy. Just so I make sure I have this correct, the registration link will be posted at 11:00 GMT, there is an hour window to register until 12:00 GMT, and then the event itself is 18:00 GMT, being also the same time that the YouTube documentary is being aired?

I really, really liked it. :)
I was the opposite with this one. Totally sold ‘on paper’, name down for the first one with the AD and was completely underwhelmed when I tried it on.

Re: What I know today I didn't yesterday

Thanks for reigniting this thread Des, a new one for me. I learnt today: A loanword is a word which is borrowed from one language to another. For example, the word 'pizza' is simply lifted from Italian and used in English. A calque on the other hand is a loanword which is translated into English. Fo...

Re: Orange or Black Lumiere?

I can’t be that helpful because my answer to the question is that I didn’t pick and bought both.

With that said, the answer is always ‘it depends’. The black is more reserved and versatile, the orange more ‘fun’. So it totally depends what you’re after.

Though you might hear rotors spinnin’, when the crown turns they are spun It’s not the SH21, it’s just escapements on the run Of the movements that titanium’s encasin’ And if you hear vague traces of small red beaks of chime and your tourbillon’s in time, it’s just an automatic wind Your pre-order i...

Re: My idea for a watch dial.

A great idea! I did once hear someone berating their watch for not having a GD PR indicator, but I suppose they didn't mean this... Do I recall correctly that the Dune Aeolian dials are stamped? If so, I expect the same method would be prohibitive as a custom press would (I guess) be quite expensive...

Re: Freewheelin’

Great logic and almost certainly spot on. Missing a link to cheese. You're so right. I was trying to work out where the link to cheese was. Then I realized, the word "Edam", using the A1Z26 cypher, would represent the numbers 5, 4, 1 and 13. Or, put another way, 13/5/41 (or 5/13/41, the 1...

Re: Freewheelin’

Mmmm.... CW have done a few collaborations of late. Have they been working on something with Bob Dylan? Des I think I have cracked it. - The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan was released on 27/05/1963 (or 05/27/1963 depending which side of the pond you're on) - Summing up 27, 05 and 1963 gets you 1,995 - 1,9...

Re: SOTC - timepieces_and_bags - April 2025

gaf1958 thank you! The sapphire I bought around 2014 is reference 3573.50.00. I believe this was replaced around 2015 with 311.30.42.30.01.006 which was (I think) the same watch using calibre 1863 but with a slightly updated bracelet which had screws instead of pins, and a huge presentation box. Th...

I can only echo the sentiments above that it was serendipitous for you to have been the poster of the millionth post on the forum missF , and your first post is as enjoyable and insightful as always. With less than a year here and a paltry 849 posts (including this one), I still count myself as a 'n...
