Sourcing an Omega Geneve Dynamic strap

Post by FieryTowse »

It's about time I got my grandfather's 1968 Omega Geneve Dynamic back in working order, so it's going into a couple of local watchmakers for quotes. In the meantime I want to find a replacement blue strap, the only problem being they seem to be like hens teeth, probably due to the fact they weren't leather at all but Corfam (see http://brandfailures.blogspot.com/2006/ ... orfam.html).

I can get one for about £13 on eBay, but they're very similar to ones I already have which are of pretty poor quality, and they also come with gold buckles which definitely do not go with the watch.

The other option would be to go for the bracelet, which I was quoted about £110 several years ago by Omega Bond St. eBay have a couple on the go at the moment but they'd have to be well short of the asking price of a new one to make it worthwhile.

Anyway, I digress. Can anyone point me in the direction of strap sellers that might be able to supply a blue leather strap of decent quality?

You will find a nice selection here...

http://www.watch-band-center.com/

put "blue leather 18mm" (or whatever the width is) in the search box. You will be presented with a lot of options. The straps are shown in colour order, so first you will see black with blue stitching etc, but if you scroll down you will find blue leather straps.

The service is very good, and don't be concerned that the watch band center is in Germany..:)

Hope that helps.

Unfortunately they don't seem to have what I'm after. The Geneve Dynamic has a one piece strap with a hole through which the case fits (held on by a ring on the case back). Ive found one here: http://www.a1watchbands.com/product_det ... mic&id=193 - shockingly expensive though.

I think if you want quality and OEM configuration you will end up paying more. Although I would be surprised if they had any...have you checked with Omega?

Try here http://www.ofrei.com/page358.html

I have used them in the past for my Dynamic 90's strap. Good service if I recall correctly.

Google ''CJ Balm vintage watches'' - a UK site. they sell replica dynamic straps in the type you are after. Got a hankering for a dynamic again now damn it!.....James May off top gear wears one now I see.
I miss all the great things that may never be.

Kind of been looking for a Dynamic myself for a few years. Just haven't hit on the right combination of dial, condition and price.

I am a patient sort and know one will come along....actually prefer with a bracelet. 8)

CJ Balm came up trumps - I've got a blue strap on its way for the grand sum of £16.50. It was either that or one at twice the price from an eBay seller.

I'm also keeping an eye out for a bracelet - a lot of NOS items seem to be cropping up on the 'Bay lately and I'm very tempted by one at only £72 but I need to get the thing fixed first and a new leather strap should do the job for now.

Congrats on finding the strap.

Take some before photos so we can see the comparison when the job is done. :)

It would be good to see the finished article when you receive the strap. I really like the Geneve Dynamics and really wish I had picked up one that was going very cheap a few years back. Perhaps one day...!

I'll post some pics when I get it back. I've left it with a local watchmaker for a quote, as it needs a new stem and a crystal at the very least. The movement was also a bit on the rattly side but the repairs might sort that.

It will depend on whether I get it back before I authorise the work as to whether I can do a before an after shot. It's been well loved (that's a euphemism for "my old man utterly failed to look after it") but that just adds to the charm. I've loved it since I was a kid.

I'm also on the look out for a white strap. My wife hates it but I think it looks great on the watch in the summer. I've got a pretty battered one (again, cheers Dad) and they're like hens teeth to find new.
