Should I change the strap?

Post by Teejaybee »

Got an Orange C60 Trident winging it's way to me with the orange strap, my plan is to go swimming wearing it on holiday, as long as I rinse the watch off each time after the salt water is the strap going to be ok? Also using it in ordinary water, again how will the strap take it?

Personally, I wouldn't go swimming with the leather strap. I'd switch it to a bracelet or rubber strap instead.

If you wish to replace the strap in a month...swim with it. Otherwise replace with the bracelet now and keep the strap for drier activities.

That's the answers I thought I'd get, thanks for those, $64000 question...how easy is it to change the straps? I am a complete bodger so unless it's something totally simple then I guess a friendly watch shop will oblige?

The CWL leather straps are quick release so changing then is a doddle. Bracelets and rubber straps need a spring bar tool. Relatively easy for rubber but bracelets take practice.

Another option is NATO straps. You just need to put the springboard in which I have done without a tool using my fingernail.

for vacation, if i'm not sticking with the bracelet the whole time, i'll bring a couple of natos with me for my C60. ordered a leather nato to be my second strap for the upcoming alaska vacation (to go with a black zulu with a red stripe to make the red FLE face).

I never thought I would say this but NATOs and ZULUs are all starting to look quite attractive as easy ways to put a durable strap on my C60. This is only after a chap at a breakfast club showed me his C60 on NATO and it didn't look as geeky as I thought it might.

To the OP, I agree with the view that you really should change the leather strap for something more durable. The quick release pins will only work with a strap that has a slot for the quick release head so whilst it will be easy taking the strap off, putting a rubber or bracelet back on is going to require some confidence on your part. Changing the bracelet is actually quite easy as long as you have the right tool and possess some patience. If you have neither of those, I would suggest you see your friendly watch man. Although, I recall reading a story on a forum recently where a member had his watch damaged by a sloppy strap change. All the more reason for you to have a go and do it yourself.

The C60 leather straps aren't quick release, unfortunately, due to their "fitted" nature.

I would also suggest you change the leather strap for a bracelet, a rubber strap or a NATO. It is quite easy to do it yourself http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... 4034,d.d2k

You will find it easier with a springbar tool like this http://www.watchtool.co.uk/bergeon-6767 ... -6516.html

NATOs make great holiday straps and you can take both nylon and leather NATOs, swapping the nylon for leather at night and back again for swimming, etc. once you haves NATO strap on your watch it is really simple to swap them and you don't need to remove the springbars to do it.

You can even get orange NATOs :D

ah, yes. i missed this before. C60 straps are anything *BUT* quick release. i found them *very* difficult to put on, as the fit is incredibly snug.

Leather and swimming - big no no.

That's what bracelets are for. I'm not keen on rubber or NATO at all.

The c60 trident is not that easy to change. They do not come with quick release pins. Trust me I know. Took me bloody ages.
