Soporsche wrote: Tue Nov 23, 2021 1:58 pm Hi Leon, have played extensively with both and prefer either perforated or vintage style rally I.e. numbers of punched holes (proper holes but smaller than those on your rally pics).

I'm actually looking for a 24mm perforated at the moment that tapers to 18 or 20 (max) for my Tudor Grantour, wishing it had 22mm lugs as there are so many more options :D
When you say vintage rally, are there slightly larger holes going in line down the center with smaller holes along the side?
Generally yes and I've had a few of these made for me by the likes of Steveo, Heureville and even our very own Footcrazy on here.
They can actually be all the same size, mixed sizes and in any pattern (diamond being reasonably common).
I think I've got a sample:

I've always liked racing type straps, and have not appreciated rally straps. I thought rally straps looked a bit odd with the big holes. However, my placeholder Strapsco rally strap has grown on me. Now I can't picture my green C7 Rapide with a racing strap. After the holidays, I may treat myself to a Barton rally strap.

I went to check out the rally straps, but I stayed for this one! I find this quilted strap in black to be really appealing as an option for my C65 AMGT LE. I’m pretty tempted….

….ordered

It’s a handmade strap from Pavel. He is a member on TZ-UK and I ordered by contacting him on the forum.

He also has a store on etsy.com as Neptune straps. He is based in London, so no need for the straps to do a tour of the world before arriving.

He isn’t showing the one I have on the store at the moment, but does do custom orders.

Neil

I like all sorts of racing/rally straps for my Motorsport themed watches.
Probably my favourite is the custom Steveo B.R.G strap (http://www.steveostraps.com/straps-2/top-end-stuff) complete with old style CW buckle that I have on my CW C70 DBR1:

Great taste and choice Andrew, the design is unusual and brings some great character to the right watch..
They are sometimes alternatively called diamond stitched like this one. https://ezawatches.com/product-category/straps/

That’s a beautiful strap, but I never think of that kind of perforated strap as either a rally/racing strap. I always associate full blown holes with rally/racing as opposed to the smaller perforations like this.

Yep, it's all personal preference. I attempted to match the style of the original CW leather strap which had small perforations, and many of the Heuer Carreras (which basically this watch mimics) came on a similar style strap. But, being totally honest, it was the color that did it for me! This watch was about to be flipped until I found this strap (after going through quite a number of fails).

I hope my comment didn’t read as “Oh, that’s not a rally/racing strap.” That was not the intent at all, but just that we all have different takes on the meaning. One of my favorite straps for my C65 AMGT LE is a perforated CW Peccary leather one just like your blue strap. I like to think of the smaller perforations as the more sophisticated version of a rally/racing strap, the dressed up strap, if you will!

And isn’t it amazing what a difference a strap cab make to our perceptions of a watch.

No, I was not offended!

This year I have spent more on straps than I have spent on watches. The right strap makes or breaks a watch. Quite a number of my watches have redeemed themselves just by my being (obsessively) focused on finding just the right strap. I need help. LOL
