Old Gold on Choc Croc

Post by Amor Vincit Omnia »

When I got my Smiths Astral it was on a 16mm strap, so I swapped it out onto an 18mm Hirsch that's been in my spares box for a while. I've been wanting to smarten it up with something a bit more exotic and finally got around to it with this rather nice dark chocolate crocodile number I found in a local jeweller's. It's thinner, longer and more comfortable than the Hirsch...makes me think old luggage, ocean liners, Friday at Lords &c...dream on!

Well, I like it anyway! :D

Oh yeah that works, if that watch could talk it would start every sentence with, "in my day...." :)
I miss all the great things that may never be.

Very nice. You found the strap in a jeweller - is it vintage, NOS, or just a lucky pickup?

Brand new, Robin - there's a kind of "Jewellers' Quarter" in Norwich and one of them (Dipples) has some really nice straps made for them in Italy - bit pricy but very nice!

That would make sense - the Italians do have a certain style when it comes to this sort of thing. I didn't realise Norwich had a "Jewellers' Quarter" though - must look it up if I ever get back that way.

Thanks AVO

Well, I say "Jewellers' Quarter"...let's say there are 4 or 5 old-established, independent quality jewellers' shops within about 100 yards of one another, leaving aside the national chains (and my 3 friendly watch & clock makers).

Sounds a bit like Chichester - that has 5 independents who all sell a few vintage watches alongside their normal stock (makes for an interesting hour or two browsing). Must see what they have in the way of straps when I next go in.....

Looks good but a bit too shiny for my tastes.

Avo,

The Smiths is a beauty! The strap also looks very nice.

Congratz on the combo.

Cheers,
Sifion.
