C5 mk1 - strap advice

Post by missF »

I’m thinking I’d like a vintage looking dark brown padded strap for my new (old) C5 aviator. Slightly unfortunately it’s only an 18mm lug size - I’ve seen some cracking aviator straps but none that narrow...

Does anyone have any suggestions?
(Don’t feel you have to stick to my brief!)

Thanks :D

This is the only 18mm strap I have. I think it looks ok so I’ll wear it on this for a while just to enjoy the watch, and see what else you all suggest

My identical aviator has ended up on one of three Barton nato straps. One in olive, the others are striped.Recommend you have a look,

Since you're looking at dark brown straps, if you prefer a more casual look, how about something like this?

I'm sure you could find something similar from a UK shop, if you didn't want to pay for shipping from Germany.

Some more ideas from old pics of mine, albeit on black straps (I'd posted similar pics here before but they're long gone as my previous hosting site has died):

Ahhhh, this just arrived from Watchgecko. It’s a lovely quality padded QR strap, and for gut instinct reasons I went for the lighter brown option- light brown wasn’t really anywhere on my radar. But I love this!

Interesting, not too bad at all.

I might want to test mine on a similar reddish/lighter brown strap with thick stitching. The brown strap I'd previously tested it on was a darkish brown. Let's see how the lighter brown looks on it.

I tend to think that these older style aviator/pilot watches look good with a vintage style strap with a side stitch, for example: Vintage Winchester Quick Release Watch Strap - Shorter Length:

I’ve really just discovered watchgecko straps for the first time, but they have a well-selected selection. I’m loving the padded light brown strap on my C5mk1 ( in fact I’m totally loving the mk1 honeymoon experience altogether!).
I have just ordered one of the straps you recommended- the tan version - but I’ve ordered it with a 20mm lug size to try on my sandstorm.

I wasn’t that keen on the 18mm lug size on the C5 at first, but on the padded strap I think it’s really classy. However, it would be cheaper for me if it had a 20mm lug, as that’s the lug size on all my other watches! I love having the scope to chop and change.

I wish there were ADs for watch straps - I’d be spell bound!
