Re: Barton straps - import duties and RM costs
I've paid Royal Mail via online payment rather than cash and they delivered it to me.

I did the same thing - followed Barton on Instagram and ordered directly and got stung for charges.
They ended up costing me a lot more than if I'd just bought them through Amazon.

Hi,
I'd like know are those silicone straps 'sticy' or tacky? I have bad experiences from sport watches with silicone straps because they feels tacky.

Not at all. I’d never been a fan of rubber or silicone straps, but a bought one of the Barton Elite range, loved it and have since bought another 6, maybe 8 more. There are several reasons I like the Elite; the dual layer colours, the “pre-curved” section near the case and the fact that they are quite thin compared to most rubber straps. The latter may not be popular with everyone I guess, but it makes the very comfortable.Daffy wrote:Hi,

Significantly though, the Elites are supplied with two different length straps (the non-buckle strap) to cater for different wrist sizes, which is great. I have one of the their standard silicone straps, but for me the Elite is well worth the extra.

Re: Barton straps - import duties and RM costs
I bought a Barton elite silicone strap from Amazon UK a couple of months ago. No import duties, came in at about £20 if I remember rightly.
It wasn't for a CW though.
On the whole, I'm happy with it. There's a 'lock' on one of the two watch bands, and it can be a bit fiddly to get that working, but it's no Biggie.
Very comfortable. Not sticky, well made, I'm guessing 3mm.

Re: Barton straps - import duties and RM costs
I have bought watches from the us. I no longer pay duty up front. Sometimes they charge you more than 20%. Also RM don't always charge. What I have found is the package gets to my local mail office, and they put a card through the door saying there's duty to pay before delivery. You can either go and pick it up, or pay online and they deliver. I don't know what conversion rates they use, but they add on £8 handling, and it's always been cheaper than what I was quoted by the seller.
Re: Barton straps - import duties and RM costs
Extra note. Bit of a pain paying an extra £8 to RM for something that's only 25 dollars though.

I wouldn’t bother ordering from outside the EU unless it’s something you can’t get inside. For anything over £15 in value, you get charged 20% VAT plus a handling fee, so that’s £11 on a £15 item if it’s sent by regular mail. FedEx charges a £12 fee, so that’s even worse.
My name is 0uatiOW, but before you ask, no I don’t.
