Watch and Strap Sailcloth straps

Post by BigPo »

I've been thinking about ordering an Artem strap for ages, but they are expensive and I'm worried about getting stung for import tax on top of it. I picked up a Mayday Sailcloth from Zuludiver and it's sort of ok but I'm not sure I'd buy another. This company popped up somewhere and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of them?

https://northstarstraps.com/collections/sailcloth

Their straps look awfully similar to Artem, even down to having an optional deployant, but they're much cheaper and I think despatched from the UK.

Anyone heard of them/used them? And more generally, does anyone have any recommendations re: Sailcloth straps?

UK based, £25 a pop. I bought one and it's pretty decent. Nice and flexible.

I don't know. Sailcloth straps seem to be a little on the pricy side for what they are.

I presume a CW hybrid would count as a sailcloth type, or is a true sailcloth something different?

These look great, thanks. Think I’m going to take a punt on one. Might see if I can find a deployment for it as well.

So it's arrived, and I have to say my first impressions are good. Here it is next to a Zuludiver Mayday strap, which is essentially twice the price:

Feels chunkier and I prefer it. The buckle is better too, I think.

Looks brilliant on the wrist, I reckon:

Thanks again for the recommendation. Definitely going to pick up a blue one, I think.

They look good for £25, and you can add in a lucky dip extra strap for £15.

Do they have QR pins? I can't see anything on the website.

Thanks, for sharing. I’m going order a couple, as the weather turns warmer.

I have an Artem strap, which is great, but expensive, and I too found Northstar, which looks the same but way cheaper, but I haven’t bought from because these popped up on my FB feed, cheaper still, QR & free UK shipping.

I’d be very keen to hear how these compare to your artem.

Re: Anyone heard of Northstar Straps/Sailcloth recommendations - Watch & Strap versions

Post by 0uatiOW »

My two sailcloth straps from Watch & Strap arrived. At £25 each shipped, compared to £72 + shipping from Wales for the Artem, I’m extremely pleased. They’re very close to the Artem, with the following differences, and attractive price makes these W&S sailcloths a very worthy alternative.

The Artem buckles are thicker and boast a slightly higher quality.
W&S version is about 0.5 cm longer.
Artem has more padding at the lug ends.
Artem holes are bigger & more smoothly cut.
Leather backing seems just about the same.
W&S has WR spring bars as standard, Artem charges extra.
Surface finish is very similar, the Artem slightly more textured when viewed side by side.

Pictures below - the Artem is the black with white stitching, showing a slight curve.

Great review and pics, thank you. I can see theyve introduced new colours as well. The blue with white stitching is sold out in 20mm, which is likely to be my next purchase when it comes back into stock.

I’ve just bought an Artem for my El Primero and went for the blue with blue stitching. It fits well with my Zenith deployant which I stopped wearing with the leather strap as it dug into my wrist, but it seems perfectly positioned on the Artem.

Sadly the budget alternative mentioned by Wyatt wasn’t available in 21mm.

@iain very nice EP. Northstar straps do a 21mm version (19, 20, 21, 22mm) if they’re available, but they’re not as cheap at £48. Worth a look.

Re Watch & Strap, I was so pleased with the first two that I ordered 3 more, and a leather strap, taking the total cost to £102, automatically triggering a 20% discount and free shipping.
