Thermexman-Jan 2018

Post by Thermexman »

After a pretty choppy 2016/17, my collection seems to have settled down a bit, now that I 'think' I know what I like? I peaked at 12 watches, sold 7 but now own 9. Phew, I need a break!
Here's how the collection currently stands:

1] Seiko Kinetic Auto Relay. A keeper.
A 40th birthday pressie to myself. Worn exclusively and daily for 11 yrs.
Image

2] CW C60 Trident Black. A keeper.
My first foray into CW and my first mechanical since my teens.
Image

3] CW C60 Trident White.
My second Trident because I liked the updates. Not sure if I'll keep this one though?
Image

4] BWC Swiss. A keeper.
A foray into vintage. (1965) Enjoyed the whole research/search/acquisition process immensely.
Image

5] Seiko Turtle Blue Lagoon. A keeper.
Didn't think I'd find one of these new, as they were all sold out on pre-order, when I first discovered their existence! I stumbled on one, quite unexpectedly, whilst on a mini break in Buxton. I love, love, love it!
Image

6] CW C600 Tri-Tech Elite. A keeper.
I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I've loved these from the first time I saw one. Bided my time and snapped this up within 10 or 20 mins of it going into SC! It's a bit poorly at the moment. The crown began to feel a little bit stiffer after a couple of months and then, one day, something seemed to snap, inside! The crown only engages for a couple of turns and then free wheels until you give it a shake, then repeat. So it'll be off back for a service and repair later in the year. I'm still getting to wear it. It just takes a little more effort!
Image

7] Sinn 103 ST-SA-E (EINE von 300) Limited Edition. A keeper.
Decided to sell off some watches and buy a more expensive piece. Drew up a list of tick boxes and this beauty ticked them all. Love this one three times too.
Image
Image

8] Seiko Samurai Padi Special edition.
Fancied a Seiko with a Pepsi bezel and kinda bought this on the rebound, after the purchase of an SKX fell through. I keep thinking that I'll move it on but then I wear it and find that I really like it. I guess I'm a Seiko Fanboy at heart! We'll see, it may get to stay...
Image

9] Finally: CW C3 2017 FLE.
I guess most of you know the story of this one. I think it's a lovely watch, however, I'm not sure that it's a keeper. I think my taste has moved on, since it was conceived. It may not stay? Really not sure yet!
Image

10] There's one space left in the box.
My plan for 2018, is to throttle back and maybe aim for just one big purchase. Well it would be for me! I currently have my eye on the Tudor Black Bay. Either the red or the blue. Not sure yet and that could change, right? :D

The sin is the pick of the bunch and like you I have a soft spot for a seiko (or two). I think the addition of a Tudor black bay will compliment the collection nicely.

Holy smokes, that is one hell of a collection.

Love the Sinn, the Tridents and the Seikos. Ah, what the heck, they are all cracking.

A black bay is an interesting proposition, yet I am not sure it is needed! Those Seikos are the ultimate divers in my eyes, and will take some beating!

Nice collection there Steve. Like many I’m a big fan of the Sinn, but I’m also pretty keen on a couple of your Seikos - the Turtle and the good old Kinetic (for some reason I just love that style). The other prize would be the Tri-tech; love a bit of colour in a collection and it amps it up nicely. :)

Black Bay? Have you tried one on? I was surprised when I did, as I was a big fan of the blue, but the red turned out to be the winner when I put it on, even though I eventually ended up buying a Pelagos. Have never tried the black, so I’ll be interested to see what transpires.

Great varied collection Steve with a nice splash of colour. I like the turtle, tritech and sinn.

I recommend the Tudor BB Black, a classic.

It's good that you have quite a few you see as keepers, will be interesting to see if they are all still in the box in a year's time!

A fantastic collection. A man after my own heart, gotta love a rotating bezel.

A Tudor black bay is in my sights to but its a psychological barrier too far. Maybe if I had your ability to "throttle back"? but "see shiny trinket, want shiny trinket, buy shiny trinket" always takes over.

That's an excellent collection Steve  My favourite is the Sinn, I next like the Seikos and Tridents equally, and I also like the BWC as a nice dress watch.

A rarity for me to try watches on in a shop - but I once tried a couple of Tudor BBs on - they feel, fit and look amazing!! I look forward to hearing / seeing if you decide to buy one

Thanks Guys. I haven't tried the Tudor on or even handled one yet. Only drooled over pics or viewed through shop windows. Who knows, I may not gel, when I get to meet one in real life! The trouble, is that there is one AD 13 miles away and then it's 25 miles to the next ones. Their prices are RRP, so no urgency I guess?
