nbg - SOTC - October 2023

Post by nbg »

My CW journey…

The last time that I did a CW SOTC was in January 2022.

Rather than repeat the full narrative about the watches owned at that time, I have included a link as above.

The nine that I owned at December 2015.

A pic of my three favourites from the nine.

A couple of pics of the 4 added by January 2022 and the subsequently purchased Aquitaine GMT. The Aquitaine is my favourite of that group, followed by the C65SC. They both offer something different to other watches that I own, whereas I have another blue dial dive watch that I prefer and the C63GMT plays second fiddle to my favourite fixed bezel GMT.

I have black and white dial 36mm three hander sports watches and liked the idea of adding a bit of colour, as alternative options. I initially ordered the red and green. However forum friend Ryan tired of his blue one after a couple of days, so I added that one as well. I think they are very neat versatile watches. If I only kept one it would be the Acer red.

As soon as I saw the Bel Canto during the forum preview, I knew that I would order one. I am always amused when someone says “but you could buy a Tudor/Omega for that money”. That kind of misses the point of the BC. Easily one of my two favourite CWs. A watch that I don’t envisage selling.

My most recent CW is the C12(36). The 40mm also happily fits, but for a lighter dial option I prefer the 36mm. The Twelve has killed off me bothering to wear a few of my watches. My second favourite CW.

I am looking forward to receiving the 2023 C63FLE. After that who knows. That rather depends on the models that CW releases.

Beautiful collection. That 36mm white 12 has been a great temptation for me lately. Thanks for sharing.

That quite an impressive collection spanning the years and shows off the development of CW really well. I assume the date it shows that you joined the forum, November 2013, is around the time you discovered CW and therefore explains the missing original logo from your collection?

Do you keep all your watches? I note you don’t have the trusted seller badge which does suggest you probably have sold anything. Either that or like me you just can’t be trusted…..

Iain’s Law: Any discussion on the Christopher Ward forum, irrespective of the thread title or subject matter, will eventually lead to someone mentioning the Bel Canto if the thread continues for long enough.

Wonderful. Your wrist shots over time have made me take a second look at several CW watches that I might otherwise have looked past. Most especially the Acer Red. I have also enjoyed your Bel Canto shots taken here, there and everywhere. Thanks for sharing :D

It’s fascinating to see how the design language, especially with regards to size and colour, has evolved.

Yes I bought my first CW and joined the forum at a similar time. I visited CW Towers about a week after buying my first (C20 Lido). Bought a Trident during the visit and tried on as many other models as possible, for future reference.

I should have taken and kept wrist pics, as I would then have realised that the C9, C10 and C11 are bigger than my preference and avoided buying them, albeit at discounted prices. :problem:

There were some original logo watches still kicking around at the time. However as I like order I wanted all my CWs to have the same logo. Little did I know that more logo changes would follow!

I have sold watches, but not CWs. I really should sell 6 of the 9 in the first pic. But don’t get around to it. Watches that I have sold, have been either to a dealer, or a fellow forumite (via chatting in PMs, rather than putting up a sales thread).

Putting together a SOTC post always takes time. I thought it easier to use existing wrist shots, which for many of the pics, also have the benefit of outdoor lighting. I also like that I can look at any of them and know where they were taken. :)

There is also the point that if I had taken pics of them all in watch boxes, my attention to detail would have meant endless time spent setting them all to the correct date and time!

:) There is an obvious gap in the design language of the CWs that I own…

It started in May 2016 and lasted until I picked up the Dartmouth in January 2020.

@nbg I must admit, that had passed me by, but now you come to mention it...
