Re: missF Dec 2015
OK - you wait 2 years for a SOTC, and then two come along at once!!
since it's still december, i'll update this SOTC rather than post separately anywhere else.
now the last time I bought a significant watch (my C11), i had just been quite unwell getting quite intense about the nature of time, eventually dropping out of normal time altogether and doing some hospital time!
i won't go into depths (or heights!) this time, but i have bought a new watch - the Ball Ohio Moonphase - and it's just lovely.
i remain passionate and fascinated by mechanical automatic watch movements. it's the sheer endeavour that captivates me, sustained and still at work after centuries - the wonder of watching an automatic movement alive in the hands of someone who made it. so the fact that people would still want to create moonphase complications - a hark back to, and respect for, a very different elemental sort of timekeeping, just entrances me. i've always loved moonphase watches.
but the trouble with mechanical moonphase watches is that they're almost invariably dress watches, to tend, take care of, wear lovingly but sparingly, and keep dry. and i'd always thought this ruled me out of ever owning a moonphase. the Ball Ohio moonphase bust all this out the water! Tough, rugged, anti-magnetic, and with a WR of 100m, this is the only mechanical moonphase I've found that i could own and wear - really wear - all the time. and as i like a little bit of quirk in watches, this moonphase has a very prominent moon that takes up about half the dial from 2-7 o'clock - the moon is no afterthought on this watch, and i love the fact that i see the moonphase before i register what time it is!
this year has been very significant for me in ways i won't waffle about. I've reached the end of a 10 year journey, and am about to embark on new ground. way markers are important in life. for me anyway. so place a marker, give thanks you made it so far, then ready yourself for what comes next. try not to take steps backwards. allow for waxing and waning of energies. i bought a moonphase watch which seems absolutely fitting - if i didn't chat on this forum perhaps i would have bought myself a piece of art!
my photos are rubbish, but simply proof that the watch is here and now in safe hands. the dial is inky midnight blue lifted to a pale shimmer when the light catches it - like catching a glance of the milky way. the way the light catches the indices makes the dial twinkly rather than blingy. it feels solid and very real and very comfortable on my wrist. the PCLs even get to stay for now!
best of all, i'll be able to set the moonphase correctly for the full moon on Christmas day!

Re: missF Dec 2015 (+BIG update!)
Congratulations missF that is a great looking watch. As to the PCLs, if you wear the watch as its designed for and don't baby it, after a few years the PCLs will end up looking brushed anyway! Enjoy.
