Well, I suppose a little update is in order. I have cogitated and deliberated as Lloyd Grossman would say. I now have a slightly clearer picture. So, the keepers…

Cartier – well we always knew that!
Longines – ditto. Apart from the fact that it is a gorgeous 18 carat vintage watch that keeps amazing time, it has a meaningful link to my childhood.
Gold plated 1961 Omega – the first vintage watch I bought in the modern era, so to speak. Safe as houses.
Smith's Astral – I considered this, but decided to keep it as the third of my trio of vintage gold watches. I wore it today in fact. Beautiful watch and I really do have to have a proper English movement in my collection.
Enicar – beautiful watch, and a gift. Going nowhere.
Kon-Tiki 20. Similar reasoning.
1917 Marvin. I could never part with it.
C3 Mk1 - all-round star.
DBR1 - The only watch I ever really regretted selling, so when I got the chance to replace it I jumped at it. This one stays. It adds some colour and pizzazz to the box.
Blue Mako - great beater and holiday watch.

Those 10 are safe. The C3 charcoal has already gone, as have the Mido and Dynamic.

The Cauny and the blue Slimline are up for sale. The jury is out on the rest. The two most difficult and thorny decisions are the C1 and the Leonidas. Still thinking about those. The others are likely to be up for sale in the near future.

If they sell, they sell. Otherwise I hang onto them. I'm not going to slash prices on an almost daily basis as some seem to do. Keep watching, thanks.

The important thing is that you are very comfortable with your decisions.

Good luck with the sales.

Update. I shall probably hang on to the Yellow Mako as I said in my PM.

I have now sold four with another one available. The ones I have sold have funded most of my trip to the Canaries at the end of the month. The whole process gets easier once you stop being sentimental about watches you are not wearing.

I may post a couple more for sale at the weekend.

Well done Steve, will there be a second Cartier joining the shrinking collection soon?

Came across this thread late, i.e. now. Interesting process. I think you are right about the sentimentality bit, or for me the fear of regret and the knowledge that some watches are unlikely to be found again if sold.

Now down to 15. I will probably not sell any more before the New Year, but will take stock again then. I am keeping well clear of Sales Corners and Internet sites that sell watches, but I have absolutely no inclination to buy anything at the moment anyway. The only watch I have ever regretted selling and bought back is the DBR1.
