Re: C8 Preview - latest designs of the Pilot
i hope the size will stay 44mm, because this watch is supposed to be a pilots watch and these watches used to be 55mm in the past (the B-watches have been worn over the jacket). i think 44mm is a nice proportion for a modern pilots watch and not too big. although i do have thin wrists, I have a watch with 44mm and it's not uncomfortable to wear. normally i prefer watches with 42mm, but as i said before, a pilots watch is a tool watch and should be bigger than dress watches (too big dress watches for a suit look pretty weird as well as too small pilots watches would do). and in my opinion the chances for sale of the watch shouldn't be a relevant criteria for the size.
ergo: i really like this watch and hope that it will keep its size
just my 2 cents...

I think it is - biiig watches are the trend these days, so keeping it at 44mm will probably enhance its chances of becoming a good seller.Mescalitio wrote:and in my opinion the chances for sale of the watch shouldn't be a relevant criteria for the size.
Man with one watch, always know time. Man with many watches, never sure.

I'm with daz and Peter on this. 44mm is pretty big and i have reasonably sized wrists. 42mm looks really good, eye catching presence etc but still stylish. I don't necessarilly buy the argument about it being a Pilot so should be 44 or bigger. The fact is pilots don't rely much on watches in the way they did when pilots watches were essential military kit and most of the people who buy them today aren't pilots either; we're really talking about watches based upon the pilot design. Also, they were strapped over the top of a sheepskin flying jacket hence the size of dial and straps...look great in the cockpit of a spitfire but OTT whilst sat having a beer down the pub (well, most pubs...). IWC have superb pilots but they're kept to a size that's OK for practical everyday use whilst keeping the essential design intact and using robust materials. They recently increased the spitfire from 39 to 42 and it is an improvement, but any bigger and I think it would simply look too big.
In spite of that, I like the look of the design so far, so if it is 44 I'll probably do the same and go down town to see if I can locate one to try on and hopefully feel ok with it.

I think the size of 44mm is OK.
A pilot should not be too little, it looks too dressy that way.
It should be big and rough.

Big and rough?? Are we still on watches, John?
I know what you mean, but I'm interested far more in functionality/practicality than looks alone. The original pilots were made for a specific purpose, but a watch of that size for walking around in may not feel right for me; I don't anticipate having to look at it constantly in a dark, tactical environment. I've got a 42mm and it's right on the edge of what I regard as practical for normal use. That's why I'm not sure about the 44. I'm open minded though and will check out a 44 to see how it feels on the wrist.
I take it you already have a 44mm watch or bigger?

Howcome this model says "Swiss Made" when the others are "Swiss Movt"?
Are these going to be manufactured in Switzerland ?
I know the term Swiss Made is tricky to pin down these days.
Pentti.

Daz, that is sweet! I love the layout! The thin lines look really good. Can you try something else? I'd like to see the colored slashes in red and green. I think maybe the same type of red used in the RAF dot and same type green (olive?) used on the top of the Spitfire.
Forever grateful,
