Re: Levels of recognition?

I'm forever wrist watching. Even my wife now does it, then asks me "is that something fancy?" or words to that effect! The security guy at the front desk of the hospital we've been visiting lately was wearing something shiny. My daily interactions to get the parking ticket validated meant...

Re: Can a bracelet elevate an entire watch?

The correct bracelet or strap will elevate a watch. It's not exclusive to either.

Re: The Practice of Selling NN as Brand New.

The only people who are able to sell CW watches as new, are CW themselves. Anyone else is gilding the lily (regardless of how they dress it up). Guy Sent from my Xperia 5 using Tapatalk That's not really correct. If you buy a watch from them and don't even open the box then how is it not new? It's ...

Re: Dream Job?

A soft retirement is very sensible and it looks like the way forward to me. A bloke at my work took his pension and now does 19 hours pw over 2 days. Gives him all the time he needs to play around with his bus and get used to not working at the same time. It's not retirement but I'm now on day 4 of ...

Re: Non CW of the Day

Does going past the time you are setting it to by a few mins and then going back not help to take the ‘play/travel’ away? It’s worked for me with 7750/53 based movements in the past. [/quote] Tried that and failed but I'll revisit it next time I set it in a week or two. It runs at -1 so I'...

Re: New Rolex Oyster Perpetual Models - in bright colours...

^^^^^^I was only searching for it as in the only side by side shot I've seen (not that I've cared to look for many) the lugs looked considerably longer. It was probably the angle. It's not a watch that caters for my tastes but we all know things can change. Drastically growing lugs would be displeas...

Re: Non CW of the Day

Just picked this one up recently. I like the looks, but the minute hand has a good bit of “travel” and it’s hard to get it to point directly at the minute marker on the minute. Am I alone in being a little annoyed at this? No, I agree that it's a real pain. I'm experiencing the same thing with a wa...

Re: New Rolex Oyster Perpetual Models - in bright colours...

Well it looks like the old 114060 is 40.22mm and the new 124060 a massive 40.53mm. :) I think that the lug width has been increased from 20mm to 21mm, which accounts for part of the change in slimming down the lugs. Neil I've been trying to find the lug to lug as it's looks like it's increased. Not...

Re: The Year of the Chronograph???

I think the year of the chronograph was superceded and replaced by the year of the coronavirus. They sound a bit similar to the half way point.

Re: How often do you “check” your watch?

It seems I'm in the minority. I keep my Citizen, G Shock and toy Casio correct to the second when wearing (for work purposes). Most others are watch specific but I leave alone if within -15/+15. I do pay close attention to my CW as it'll sometimes run on a rhythm where I can keep it very close to ze...

Re: Are smarts the new quartz?

They probably are the new quartz.

The truth is that proper watches are antiquated and will probably only be appreciated by connoisseurs in the not too distant future. Who needs a Patek when you can have the latest Samdung to match your Galaxy S54?

Re: London Olympics

Sorry, I can't help with your question. I lived in Stepney Green at the time though and I'll never forgive boris and seb for stealing our marathon and turning it into a vanity showcase instead. That's without even going into the millions they wasted improving the look of the shop fronts on Whitechap...

Re: Waning interest in watches.

I'm quite satisfied with what I have to be honest. I can't see myself making a £300+ purchase in the next 5 years or so. Probably never.

I've a huge interest in eclectic retro/vintage pieces though and I can see myself making small inexpensive purchases in that respect in a couple of years or so.
