Re: The Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical
Ticks 2 boxes for me - 1) No date 2) Proper ETA movement that can be regulated, unlike the H10 (AKA ETA C07.611) which can't, at least other than by the factory, and they'd most likely swap it out anyway. The H10 in my Hamilton Khaki automatic 38mm auto runs annoyingly fast, and the longer power res...

Re: The Orient Bambino Small Seconds
Agree with other posters - get rid of the date. Also it's a tad too big, so has the same problem as other modern small seconds watches. The movement determines where the small seconds sits, so they are forced to make that dial too small in relation to the overall size, and relatively too close to th...

Re: Omega Aqua Terra in 2018
I stand to be corrected (and frequently am) but I think the RRP of the latest 2017 version is lower than the previous (and much more desirable IMO***) version, so they may be offering a bit of a discount; but you can do much better if you check around the interweb thingie. Depends on the size you wa...

Re: 5 ways you might damage a mechanical watch
I'm far too 20th century for ipads - even down to wearing mechanical watches still ! And I still type envelopes using a beautiful Swiss Hermes manual typewriter *** - I tried using my laser printer, but generally had to scrap the first 3 attempts as I got the orientation wrong... :? Actually, I do h...

Re: 5 ways you might damage a mechanical watch
It depends on the watch. Current Omega co-axials, as close to impossible as it gets; latest movements are exposed to massive gauss values as part of their testing (more for marketing reasons than anything else). Current Rolexes also highly resistant. I think there's an ISO standard for antimagnetic ...

Re: 5 ways you might damage a mechanical watch
Suggest you download Gauss Meter from Keuwlsoft (it's free) - much easier to check for magnetism than with a compass. Magnetised watches normally run inconsistently fast, not slow. I presume you checked the watch in different positions ? A watch can be -6 in some positions but still meet COSC, which...

Re: 5 ways you might damage a mechanical watch
^ Thanks for that, it does attract and repel but can't work out which bit's responsible. Would help if it were on a strap so I could get the compass near the back, but it's not... I think I'll record the accuracy before spending £100+ on a timegrapher, interesting as they look  It would not su...

Re: 5 ways you might damage a mechanical watch
Bear in mind that a compass needle will be attracted to any type of ferrous metal magnetised or not. If something is magentised though, it will tend to attract one pole of the compass and repel the other. If yours attracts both ends of the compass it would tend to indicate it isn't magnetised. I thi...

Re: How do you say.....?
For understandable business reasons I think Jaeger-LeCoultre go along with either pronunciation, although Edmond Jaeger was based in Paris, so he'd probably have used the zhay-zhair-le-cool-trer version rather than sounding like a knitwear company. You could always give them a call in Le Sentier (I ...

Re: 5 ways you might damage a mechanical watch
An interesting read and it has me thinking that I might have magnetised my C7 by putting on my iPad at night. Didn’t even think about it but it was gaining 0.85 secs a day and recently losing 3/4 secs so it sounds possible. Time to find a compass :) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Normally watches...

Re: The Bargain Hunters Thread
Having secured a long coveted promotion at the tail end of 2017 I've hummed and hawed over numerous Omegas but finally succumbed to this hard to refuse offer at Ernest Jones: http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/2243156/omega+seamaster+aqua+terra+150m+men%27s+bracelet+watch/ I was quite disappoi...

Re: Buying from Chronext, one man's experience
I've bought from them twice. They're a genuine outfit, but dealing with them is not without its issues. On the first occasion, the website said the watch was in stock and would be despatched within (I think) 48 hours. It wasn't. When I contacted them by e-mail they said they were waiting for it to a...

Re: Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Auto Review
It's genuine - they've changed the design of the "H" cutout, but it's an H10 movement alright.

Re: Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Auto Review
Keepitsimple, I have no idea what movement is in the watch, theres no mention in the booklet and I would know how to tell them apart. The rotor on the H10 has an "H" cutout, and if you look at the hairspring/balance wheel unit there is no regulator. If the movement is hacked, you should a...

Re: Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Auto Review
Be interested to know what movement it arrives with. If you have any choice, I'd go for the ETA 2824-2 which is what the Khaki Fields were fitted with before they adopted the H10 (ETA C07.111 base) while leaving the model numbers the same which I reckon was a bit devious. I've got a Khaki Field - sm...
