Re: I have never ...

Tried a kebab. Nor smoked a sigarette. I’ve smoked a few sigars, though.

Re: Ming 17.01 - thought I’d show you this

Too bad, Lindsey. The Ming is a gorgeous thing. But, a good thing to know what doesn’t work for you. I’m also in the skeptic camp re titanium. I remember too well the cheap digital watches made from titanium, with their dull grey appearance and flimsy feel. I like a bit of heft in my watches. I’ve n...

Re: Automatics – pros and cons?

Like missF I enjoy the romantic feeling of winding my watch. I always wind when going to bed, preparing the watch for the day to come. It’s a few quiet moments to enjoy the watch. Also, my mornings usually are a whirlwind of activity with no time to spare and certainly no peace and quiet. For me aut...

Crown at four on a dress watch! No, thank you! 🥸

Re: In praise of “shaped” watches.

My late father’s yellow gold Certina ‘hummer’ from the mid 70s is also an example. There are echoes of the Nautilus there, don’t you think?

Having a round dial it goes against @Amor Vincit Omnias criteria stated above though.

Re: In praise of “shaped” watches.

I very much like shaped watches. They are often interesting, in terms of design. The pebble shape of the Panerai 512 is very pleasing to the eye, and at 42mm and 11mm thick wears like a dream. 83D2C4FE-C963-4D1B-88DD-9FE35DAF3AEB.jpeg And of course, Reversos are a passion of mine. Here the Tribute T...

The aurora borealis isn’t often seen as far south as Oslo, but yesterday it could be seen here.

Re: For Pete’s sake...

In the town where I grew up the surname of a much disliked Chief of Police actually became a mild swearword around 1900, and it is still in use today!

Re: What to let go: the deselection process

For me the most important deselection factor is that my taste/interest/views have changed. What once was a ‘top’ watch no longer is. This process can take years, or mere months. Once it took only a few days!

Re: What to let go: the deselection process

Interesting discussion. Seems to me there is a difference if you truly are a ‘collector’, versus someone who likes to have a selection to wear. The latter will cull whatever isn’t used, whereas the former uses other criteria. Most of us are probably in the second category if we’re being honest. I kn...

Re: Finishing the Finnish way

I think that’s a lovely watch, Bjørn. The dial is quite the star, too. Love the tropic/degradé effect. The lume overprinting at the cardinal points and 5min plots must offer good lume presence? I bought a canvas strap from a maker in Finland and he is a big fan of S.U.F. He makes his straps from re...

What was the criticism, Richard? I agree, I think it looks good.
