Re: Feelings or looks?

Everyday is a busy workday for us pensioners; mowing the lawn, chopping down trees, taking stuff to the dump, painting the kitchen . . . . wish I was back at work sometimes. So its a choice between these two . . . Untitled-1.jpg I'm planning to retire at the end of this year - but after reading thi...

Re: The “Where’s My Watch?” Game

That part of London has changed so much in the last few years, Guy - but still the (very late) Victorian building opposite is certainly a sight for sore eyes :)

Re: Are regional nicknames offensive now?

There's no right or wrong to this; it's what each of us determines. I fundamentally disagree with that statement, and using Bob Dylan to illustrate it misses a key point. What may have been 'acceptable' in the past doesn't mean that it was right in the past - it was still wrong. I'm a 66 year old m...

Re: Are regional nicknames offensive now?

I recently got into a debate with a man in his 20's on Facebook who was a relative of a friend of mine and was from Scotland. He got most offended when I referred to him by the nickname "Jock" which I thought was a term of endearment for someone from Scotland. He called me racist and all ...

Re: Bronze C60 300 - long overdue

I believe rehaut means flange. That would make sense, but rehaut sounds better. Flange always sounds to me like some kind of flobby tasteless dessert you might get in the school canteen: a sort of cross between flan and blancmange. :kotz: I'm afraid I've got flange with an alternative slang meaning...

It’s a French term related to “haut” = high, I guess because it raises the crystal to the correct height above the hands and dial. That’s what I have always assumed anyway, and etymologically it makes sense.

As Lady Bracknell famously said: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyuoUwxCLMs I cannot comprehend the magnitude of the distress these poor people must be going through. And, doubtless, they cannot comprehend the magnitude of the **** I do not give. :irony: Although not quite the same, there are simi...

Re: Direction of the watch industry

Will mechanical appeal to this cohort later in life when they have a bit of cash to splash?? Yes, I would think it will. It needs to be borne in mind that the number of people now who spend more than a few hundred on a watch is quite low - most much less than that. Us forumites/WIS are a pretty rar...

Re: Direction of the watch industry

This thread has me thinking about my post about the Tudor BB54. It’s not priced at a point beyond my reach financially. If I really wanted that watch to commemorate my retirement, I could get it. But at 2x to 3x the price of a CW, is it 2x to 3x the quality? I just don’t know about that, and theref...

I’m sure you’re aware of the old adage about Porsche owners and porcupines, Steve?
I always applied that saying to Saabs!
