Re: What is a great watch magazine?

Hi Atnits, I've been thinking of buying 1001 watches as well but I haven't got the money or space in the watch box  Interested in this discussion though as I have a hankering to read up more on my obsession. 1001 does have good descriptions of how watches work, as well as brief history of deve...

Re: What is a great watch magazine?

Barnes and Noble usually has a selection, but I agree that some of them are like looking at porn; you can get excited looking, but will never get to touch and feel!

Re: CWL watch accuracy challenge

Just reported in. Amazingly my C5A Mk II dropped back to -24. It was up to -30 on Friday afternoon. -24 means that it's lost 2 seconds since at least 10 October when I reported -22. That's incredible and wipes the floor with most COSC watches!! I've worn this almost daily since purchase in November...

Re: Vintage challenge?

Haven't had the pleasure of that yet. The Deep Blue I've got coming has the NH-25A, which according to what I've read so far, performs like that. Perhaps they share the movement? There is a part of me very offended by the lack of a hack feature and the inability to manually wind the watch, but I'm ...

Re: Pocket watch chronograph.

I like the idea, but I have been trying to convince him to make a pocket watch for years. Thought I almost had him about 2 years ago but it never came about. Well you know he may not be ready yet for that one but I'll bet the number of auto's in his current selection was partially the result of thi...

Re: Auto over Quartz over Auto over...........

Having done exactly that on more occasions than I care to remember, I quite agree. In fact, If I still had some of those watches, I could probably retire!

Re: Auto over Quartz over Auto over...........

Cogently and concisely put. There is also the matter of aesthetics to consider. As stated in other threads, I personally prefer the mechanical over the electric. However, the C3 chronograph is not only a neat and very accurate chrono, but a an elegant work of the horological art, as well. I bought i...

Re: Vintage challenge?

I set my Gallet (circa 1978-9?) the other day as a start up/warm up for the vintage, and it has no hack feature. However, there was an interesting post on the net about how to reasonably accurately set the time, care of a sales brochure from TAG Heuer. One must hold the seconds hand back while wait...

Re: Vintage challenge?

Sorry all. I miswrote the http address. It should be www.chronomaddox.com, and the article can be found on that site. the title is: Heuer Carrera Chronographs: A Brief Overview: Then, Now, and the Future. Also, and I didn't know this until just a few moments ago, Chuck Maddox, the co-auther, had die...

Re: CWL watch accuracy challenge

There is that indefinable moment when you realize that not only is your watch over a minute off, but you are readily allowing it, nay, requiring it to be so, if it will. My stomach hurts. -82 seconds as of 1838 10/20/2011. Kip, placing my C5 dial down slows the loss rate to zero. I'm losing between ...

Re: Auto over Quartz over Auto over...........

Premise: this has nothing to do with the recent Autumn Event and I do not intend to promote it either 8) The debate of "auto over quartz" must be one as old as "chicken or egg". IMO, watch is a tool, but also as many of us do, it is also an accessory, habit, statement and hobby....

Re: So why is it...

Have been looking over my Gallet, and have rediscovered the bidirectional bezel. It has no click mechanism, and could not be used as a diver type, but then it was designed as an aviators watch wasn't it? Numerated in hourly and half-hourly markers, the bezel can be turned easily in either direction,...
