Re: I am a stupid man, or: how I bought a Twelve and immediately regretted it

My experience of UPS, DHL & FedEx is that they’re crap, and while they may a) disappointed regularly, and b) lose packages temporarily, they rarely lose them permanently, so stay positive. Hope it works out for you. I bought an expensive LE piece from eBay,it took UPS 1 day to get to my local de...

Good luck. Hopefully the “authenticators” (air quotes intended) don’t lose / steal / break anything during its sejour with them. I’m sure it will be fine, just a bit bitter. Incidentally, here in the UK their shenanigans are recorded, hopefully it’s the same stateside.

Re: Other British watches: Vertex M100

A wonderful choice. The solid lume blocks are amazing, and credit to Don for being able to revive his great grandfather’s company. Lots to like with Vertex.

Re: Hybrid straps - CW or Hirsch?

A black/red Hirsch Robby would be excellent. I have one on my C7 Chrono. It would be awesome against your red DLC barrel.

Re: Spring bar tool or pliers

I have a cheap pair of pliers from Ali or EBay. It’s OK. Well no, while they make changing a bracelet easier than using a single prong spring bar tool, they are pretty terrible. However, I understand it’s possible (and well worth it) to buy replacement Bergeon bits (or whatever they are called) and ...

Re: Dining Recommendations in the Paddington Station area?

Not sure if there are any near Paddington, but Blacklock & FlatIron are great places to eat chops and steaks at a reasonable price. Blacklock does a roast menu on Sundays, which is great if that’s what you’re after, though I think the à la carte is better (not available on Sundays however). Othe...

Why not indeed?

In response to a post on a FB Group by a collector who was resisting buying a winder, but wanting to avoid picking up a piece from his collection and always finding it motionless, I suggested he do a Diego. Maradona, famous for three things mainly: that goal, that “goal” and double-wristing, which w...

Re: You MUSTN’T wear it on leather!

So, twin holes has been mentioned 4x above, so I consider this part of the thread now. They are a pain in the aerosol. I was putting a bracelet on my Brellum Pandial, got the springbars in the wrong holes, so the end links rotated somewhat, and literally spent 2 hours getting them out and refitted… ...

Re: The most overpriced watches…

I like Britt. Having read a few comments about her excellent pronunciation, after I clicked the link, I was excited to see her first pick, and I thought “oooh, this will be good”, but what a disappointment. She sneakily avoided using the full brand name, instead opting to use the brand’s initials, m...

Re: CW 2 Watch Roll

Looks very good quality, the different sized slots shows an attention to detail (if it’s deliberate). I like it, and would consider buying one for it not the fact that I already have too many cases, pouches and rolls. Now, if this were offered as an alternative to the bamboo box, that would be defin...

Re: Newbie question of the day...

iain I was wondering about your approach when I spoke to Watchfinder. I made an enquiry about buying an expensive precious metal LE from my favourite brand, and inquired about a PX, thinking that they would make £Z on the piece I was taking, so they would perhaps be inclined to take less of a marku...

Re: Newbie question of the day...

Has your Watchfinder experience been a let down because you feel they didn’t offer you a fair price? Another question for everyone- are older or not top quality watches best sold on eBay or is it just a case of describing them properly? I felt that 50% of RRP was a low ball for a 3-month unworn Lim...

Re: Newbie question of the day...

Cynically, that’s exactly why they ask you that. Even if you turn the tables & ask them for the opener, they’re always going to start low anyway, so you may as well grab the initiative & tell them 20 or 30% more than what you’re actually looking for. My rule of thumb is that for a watch that...

Re: Feeling really rather sad

I’m so sorry for your loss Guy. We only met in person a couple of years ago, and I met Davie once. I’m sure you have a head full of happy memories of Sue, Davie and the two of them together, and I trust those will keep your chin up. Take care, and stay strong.
