Re: Magrette Moana Pacific Waterman GMT

I just picked up a Bronze Waterman, which at 42mm diameter & 13mm thick* is 2mm smaller than the Kara in both measures, and it certainly wears smaller as you would expect. (* Magrette’s website puts both watches as 15.3mm think - that’s incorrect for the Bronze Waterman). https://uploads.tapatalk-cd...

Re: Why Keep This Forum Going?

I started writing this offline a while ago and since then have returned to find some points already made. Rather than editing below, and risking upsetting what little continuity I weaved into the paragraphs below, I’ve pasted it as I’ve written it, but apologise if I repeat any insights made above. ...

Re: Magrette Moana Pacific Waterman GMT

I saw that yesterday too. I like it a lot - especially the bronze variant. Timing isn’t right for me, and I have too many GMTs to be able to justify another. But, like you Guy, I am a fan of the brand, and of the customer service for which Dion is well known. His is a micro-brand which I have no hes...

Re: Rugby World Cup

Young Kiwi referee Paul Williams, in his first World Cup game (England v Tonga), is impressing me, getting decisions right and clearly explaining his reasoning. More of this please.

Re: New CW owner confused

I have bought 5 CW watches since 2017, and my experience has been mostly good, in fact I’d say very good. 2 watches (my 1st & 3rd purchases) went back - 1 for replacement and 1 for refund, and both times the experience was perfect. I was very impressed by the way they were handled at the time by And...

Re: Wrist Size with a C7 Rapide Leather Strap

^^ On my 7inch wrist the red/black Piccari leather strap was just too large on the last hole. I haven’t been able to use it, and switched to a bracelet.

^^ Just be glad it wasn’t sent by Fedex. They charge as £12 handling fee.

Re: What are you listening to right now ?

Have recently resurrected some CDs and a CD player, now listening to The Kinks - The Ultimate Collection, which is a definitive compilation of their best songs. Ray Davies is a song-writing / story-telling genius and the music epitomises the 60s and (per the sleeve notes) a relative quiet journey th...

Re: Oris Sixty-five Diver LE Honey X Revolution

Good to see you back Gary, doing what you do best - posting pictures from the beach. Oris is one of my favourite brands, and the 65 has become their signature in my opinion. The bronze-edged bezel has been a simple change but one that’s transformed the character of the watch from a tool watch almost...

Re: Do you like bronze watches?

^ Very interesting strap design thanks. The overall certainly reveals a war time era and one often reads about officers buying their own watches because they weren’t satisfied by the ones issued by the Military, but a JLC really? Personally, I would not replace or re-lume the hands. One of the marve...

Re: Vintage watch of the day (30 years+)

I also have a Summit watch presented to Dad for 25 years service at the Steelworks. The case back is stamped with his name and the British Steel logo. Not sure of age but either late 70's or early 80's. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190819/4bc9748d09087400a1c59b0bfacc4cbb.jpg Sent from my SM-G...

Re: Do you like bronze watches?

^ It either came raw or was cleaned. No way the nickel plating came off so completely in all the books and crannies with normal wear and tear. Someone’s taken a rag to it, and done a pretty decent job. It looks like something Piers could have done with his Pinions.

Re: CW spin on the Patek tagline

I was just about to make some popcorn 🍿 but then it ended.

I didn’t need google to tell me the Patek tagline, nor reveal that Quixote didn’t write a thing (it was Cervantes who did the writing). Worth a read, or indeed a repeat read.

Re: Do you like bronze watches?

My only bronze watch to date. Although I believe it may have been nickel plated at one time. That’s pretty lovely. Looks like it could be brass rather than bronze? I have a few vintage pieces where the silver-coloured-plating or gold plate has been worn away, and they look like that underneath. I h...
