Rather than face the interminable wait, we have decided to fund my wife's hip replacement ourselves, as we see it as a small price to pay for 2/3 years of improved quality of life. However, it has to be said, it will cost the same as a very nice motorbike, never mind a watch or two!

Agree with Guy and Neil. Edinburgh (or the other tourist towns such as Fort William) are nice places, but they don’t represent the best of Scotland. Rent a car and get into the north west.
