Re: "Private Eye" magazine

Thanks for that, probably about the level of responses that I was expecting. I think PE circulation is about 233K currently. Since the events of 2020 there is a lack of magazines left in doctors and dentist waiting rooms which must affect readership - I started buying the mag after spending an eveni...

"Private Eye" magazine

I've been pondering this for a while now, so thought I'd throw the question out to the forum: As a subscriber and reader of many years, I became aware of CW through the regular adverts in Private Eye. I'm assuming that someone in the marketing department thinks that PE readers are a suitable target ...

Re: Where are they?

As a relative "newbie" I'm left wondering what made the "good old days" so good, and what would make the current forum the good old gays of the future?

Re: Forum Birthday Messages

It's always a bit sad to see regular contributors move away from the forum. While personally I've never put my DOB on the forum, it is a nice thing to see. More than that though, I'll miss your posts. All the best.

Re: More quartz watches to come?

I've no idea really, but I would guess that it depends on the reception of the "Valour" and whether that translates into sales. If the valour sells strongly, then why not? Some people aren't keen on quartz, but there's enough people who are to make more models viable. After all, Grand Seik...

Re: The Christopher Ward of Pens

Ah yes, the appeal of fountain pens ... and nice ink. I did dabble a bit. Still have a number of TWSBI pens and bottles of Diamine ink lying around. The only problem now I'm retired is that I don't write enough to use them. My "daily driver" is a Platinum #3776 Shoji LE, which I write my j...

Re: A Random Musings Corner/Watercooler

Glasgow is the place to go for a city centre shopping experience with variety, plenty quality, watches Many years ago now, I lived in Giffnock. I always found Glasgow to be a much underrated city to visit. I was a regular visitor to Pollock Country Park with my dogs. One particular memory is going ...

Another Marloe fan here. The Astro isn't "me", but they are great watches. Very good to deal with too.

CW keep reaching the final stage of "unconscious incompetence"
Whilst I broadly agree with your post, "Unconscious incompetence" is actually the first stage. Conscious competence is the final stage.

Re: 50th Birthday ladies watch advice

Unless you have a clear idea what she wants my main advice would be to take her out shopping for it together. I did this when I bought my dad a birthday watch and the browsing and buying experience was a big part of the enjoyment of giving the gift. Another vote for this. £1000 is a lot to spend on...

Re: Increasing WR above 30m

So do you think that case design is the financially limiting step to having more WR? It's just my opinion, though I'm a reasonably practical person but I think it's more about the design adding bulk (as well as some cost, but then every design choice has a cost). I have a couple of Vostok watches t...

Re: Increasing WR above 30m

I think you've answered your question in the post. Better seals, a different case design to allow for the fitting of these seals. I'd also agree that the point of a screw-down crown is just so you don't pop it open by accident. Although it's something that YT reviewers harp on about, so people tend ...

Re: Modifying Watches

It's actually made by Victorinox You're quite correct - they are available as a Victorinox branded knife and also with the logo of other companies printed on (Victorinox do this a lot). You can get one here: https://www.hswalsh.com/product/watch-case-opening-knife-2-blades-victorinox-walsh-hk11-new...
