Re: Compressor Ad

I've heard reports of it being on Channel 5 as wel It popped up last Sunday early on in the George Clarke "National Trust unlocked" programme. I usually record C5 stuff so I can flick through the adverts and as I was doing so, spotted the advert. Interesting choice as to where CW see their buyers c...

Re: Trident 300 MK2 battery replacement

There's a satisfaction in being able to do stuff yourself; using the correct tool will always save damage to either your watch or yourself. Unless designed to be easily changed (e.g. CWC) I take my quartz watched to Timpsons (UK company) and take out their lifetime cover where they will replace the ...

Re: New Invicta watch

That's way beyond a "homage", I'm surprised they put 'Invicta' on the dial!

Re: eBay experience

If you want to sell a watch, there's no doubt that doing so through ebay will reach a larger audience than "sales corner", but if you are only selling one, that may not be an issue. I buy a lot of stuff on ebay (including a couple of watches) and have sold some things as well. Generally, no problems...

Re: Retained value

Totally agree about LE's, probably didn't explain too well: What I was trying to cover was a situation when demand exceeds supply to such an extent that it can be possible to sell at above retail price as some will pay a premium to jump the waiting list.

Re: Retained value

Unless what you are buying is limited release in some way, then you'll generally lose some of the value at least by the tax paid. Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay, auctions really need two people to want an item to push the price up. Rolex have a level of brand recognition most...

Re: Is this how they get you?

Not using that voucher is like leaving money in the table! Personally I just mentally knock £100 off the list prices. Although I have no direct experience, the sales seem a bit hit and miss as to a) your choice comes in the sale and b) you get to buy it (although there is usually the chance to pick...

Re: C60 Lympstone

I received the watch and yes the inner bezel is free floating loose, no ratcheting of any kind which if you're like me, who's OCD, sucks cuz after playing with it, it took me a while to get it back to the perfect location (N on 12, S on 6, etc). So don't play with it unless you're actually using it...

Re: Christopher Ward C65 Homage

" I wonder what companies offering homages do to make money, even lower margins? Even lower overheads? My guess is probably lower quality to achieve the price" Well, for a start, they don't have to spend a penny on research & design. Reverse engineering is cheaper than starting from scratch. From w...

Re: Tribus Watches

I quite like the small seconds hand COSC. While the prices seem ambitious for a new brand, it sets a marker as to where they are positioning themselves. I can easily see why they haven't released a diver - they would be going toe to toe with some serious competition, and would inevitably face compar...

Re: The Practice of Selling NN as Brand New.

Well, how new is a 'new' watch? Or anything else come to that. I can't see that the presence of a full 60/60 is definitive. I'm sure that I've seen "archive" watches being sold by CW (the FDU1 watches sold earlier this year for example) that I assume came with a full 60/60 warranty, but they were ha...

Re: C65 Super Compressor

Just got back off holiday to find my copy of Loupe waiting for me. I'd seen the 'super compressor' on the website and i think it looks great. I would buy one in a heartbeat if I had the spare cash. Regarding the WR - I thought I had misread "150m" at first, I was expecting something really outstandi...

Re: Breaking In New Hybrid Strap

Good to hear that the mk2 version is more comfortable. I suppose that's why there IS a Mk2. The original hybrid I thought looked great - so I bought one - but I can't wear it for a full day. I don't think you could EVER break in the original. It's certainly durable though.

No, you aren't the only one.
I signed up two years ago and have never received an email newsletter or any info about sales etc. They aren't going to junk. When I've tried to enrol again for the newsletters, the CW site tells me that they already have my email address!

I've nothing really to add to the comments above, other than to say that anyone's whose attention to detail is such that they consider which watch strap is appropriate for a formal occasion is sure to be well turned out.
