Re: I've Gone To The Dark Side ( My Retirement Watch )

That looks fantastic. IIRC it’s a 44mm, which is a challenge for some of us.... Nicely done on the discount. Sounds very much like the AD got found out trying to lie to you.... :-" When I asked about discount I was told that Omega said that they aren't allowed to give any on any of the Apollo varian...

Re: Order Confirmation for Misc £0

I think you get one of these when they dispatch a return pack. If you ordered a return recently, that would probably explain it.

Re: CW Bracelet Tubes and Pins

It’s not on the site & CW doesn’t sell them (to my knowledge). If you’ve removed some links, and don’t need them tight now, then I wouldn’t worry about it. If you find you need them, or decide to sell, then a watchmaker should be able to get you some. And don’t be too hard on yourself - we’ve all do...

Re: My Desire for a GMT

^ I was surprised when you sold it Steve @AVO, because I remember reading your comments about it being your “one watch” for travelling. These days, for most of us, watches are more or less optional, and those with additional complications are close to unnecessary. That doesn’t stop us collecting and...

Re: What's in the strap drawer daddy?

I’ve been wearing my blue dial (non-ombré version) on a generic MN strap similar to the one you have, though mine is olive green with a red stripe (it works well, and is just the job in the warm weather). You adjust the length by moving the brass keeper (the one nearest to the 6 o’clock position) to...

Re: A confusing Omega

First the caveat: I’m not an expert, but I do own a 1960s Seamaster and I have done a little research, so I’m offering the information below based on my knowledge as an enthusiast, but please, don’t take it as “professional advice”. The serial number checks out - the movement looks to be in good con...

Re: Barton straps - import duties and RM costs

Extra note. Bit of a pain paying an extra £8 to RM for something that's only 25 dollars though. I wouldn’t bother ordering from outside the EU unless it’s something you can’t get inside. For anything over £15 in value, you get charged 20% VAT plus a handling fee, so that’s £11 on a £15 item if it’s...

Re: The CW you wish you had...

There’s nothing like a missed opportunity to focus the mind. I’ve admired the C8 UTC in black DLC for a while. One came up with SC, I almost bagged it, but I dithered - 44 mm Is pretty large, with large dual crowns too. And then, a day, later, it sold. Then one came up in the July Sale - I tried to ...

Re: Guess who made the July sale sold-out?

This topic comes up pretty much every time there’s a sale, and there are always people who say the profiteers aren’t doing anything illegal, everyone’s entitled to make a living, and if you don’t like it, don’t buy from them... True, I suppose.... but I think it sucks. I don’t have a solution. If th...

Re: Forcing Patina on C60 Bronze

I like natural patina myself, with the occasional resets, but I’m keen to see how yours turns out if you decide to do it.

I’ve heard of boiled eggs, salt & vinegar (maybe that’s the reset?), liver of sulphur, ammonia..... there are a lot of ideas floating around the internet with videos to help.

What a bunch of old codgers we are. With few exceptions, the replies in this thread are longer-serving members, reflecting CW’s old demographic. The new customers are probably out being curious, doing things which require good eyesight.
