Re: Birth year submariner

You beat me to it by half an hour!

It's a pretty good primer, I think.

Re: Watch Collection Size

About 20, including some curiosities that don't get worn much, if at all.

Re: Birth year submariner

I have heard said that when considering a classic watch, buy the seller and not the watch. I know that sounds a bit smart arise but I think it makes sense. It's not smartass at all. It is absolutely the way to go, unless you are, or consider yourself to be, a complete expert. I do not and I have bo...

Re: 2016 targets?

Hmmm, plans for the next 12 months?

Plans so often go awry, but at the moment...

Sell: Likely none, but the Longines could go, as could the C11 MSL Vintage and a couple of Magrettes.

Buy: Possibly a Rolex Sub ref 5513 or a nice creamy Explorer 2 ref 16550.

Re: Looked at this entry level Rolex today

Like others here I have a Rolex itch to scratch but have recently found myself looking at older models in preference to the new range. I just find it a scary prospect handing over biggish money for a used example when I am no expert at identifying fakes. I think this is where the adage to "buy...

Re: Looked at this entry level Rolex today

I was enamored of the 39mm Rolex Oyster Perpetual from the moment they were announced at Baselworld. I picked up one about as soon as they arrived at the Rolex AD that I do most business with. I just love the blue face. It's true that it is a simple, no fuss, understated watch. But it has become my ...

Re: So there I was ...

That's a beautiful Seamaster and a superb timepiece overall. A great addition to the fold. But I don't understand the part about not needed to buy any more watches. That's just crazy talk!

Re: He Wishes for the Clocks of Heaven...

This manufacture was new to me, so this was a fascinating read! Regardless of price, or complication, or scarcity, these are simply beautiful timepieces. I'm enthralled. Thanks for posting this.

Re: Another old Rolex

Another photo of my Sub, this time on a new "James Bond" Nato. This, it seems, is the same style strap as worn in the Dr No movie. I picked it up from a vendor in the UK, Monkey Swag.

Re: Speedmasters

Now that the Silver Snoopys are arriving, has anyone got one? I was late to that party and I have a couple of dealers trying to locate one for me (a long shot, to be sure), but it's just such a cool watch.

Re: Planet Ocean - Long-term ownership review

Thoughtful review and great pictures, Richard. I'm glad you are long-term pleased with the Seamaster. I also have a Planet Ocean, though not the LM Limited Edition. Mine is the even larger 45mm version with the orange bezel and orange alligator strap. In most other respects, though, my experience wi...

Re: A vintage obsession

That was a fascinating article. The first step to a cure is admitting you have a problem. My name is Andy and I, um, am a collector. I've noticed something about people who collect things (and I also think that the collecting urge is very widespread, at least in the cultures with which I am most fam...

Re: one brand only to build a collection...

This thread continues to fascinate. Almost as interesting as the suggestions are, with Rolex, Omega, Longines, leading the field with a few other close behind, are the brands that are not mentioned. Panerai, Blancpain, Vacheron at the high end, but it just occurred to me that you could build a deep ...
