Re: Buy two watches, get a free flight in a Spitfire

I'd rather have the GGB than the Bremont. Might not be considered by some to be terribly haute horological, but as special, if not more so.

Re: New Seiko 5 Sports bezel-less models

I like the crown at 4. It reminds me of some of their Divers, and also their 5 range more generally, which was my intro into this world long, long ago. I initially didn't like it without the bezel, nor the sloped 5 (or is it S), but the grey version on a NATO has grown on me.

They've gone into Liquidation. If you're also on TZ-UK there is a long thread about them.

Or AnOrdain.

Some are a bit more British than others. Made in Britain would be great, and possibly a collectors item in the future.

Re: Small, light, cheap watch for leather/nato

I've had both and while both are fabulous in different ways, the Everest was the one I found I wore more, and in a variety of environments. On the bracelet it was perfect for the office, pop it on a NATO for the beach, on a canvas strap for warm days in the bush. So on balance, more versatile than t...

Re: Bremont goes Varsity

Some items require proof of being an Alum. More fool them (the real ones) if they do splash the cash. Tourist trash I’m afraid Bremont.

Re: Smiths Vanguard anyone?

I have just experienced Eddie’s customer service first hand with the new Vanguard. I, like many others have struggled to remove the bracelet. I took it to my local jeweller and they could not shift it either. I contacted to Eddie to ask if he would have a look at it under warranty. I received a ver...

Re: Smiths Vanguard anyone?

I took mine to a jeweller and with the right took it popped off. Don’t let them try if they don’t have it. Tolerances are very tight, but it’ll come off.

Re: Smiths Vanguard anyone?

I thought I'd pressed Send on my reply yesterday, so another go at it. Ref the customer service aspect, Eddie plays with a straight bat. Of the thousand plus watches he has designed, commissioned (at considerable expense - see threads) and sold, there have been a couple of over-reported incidents/di...

Re: which of these affordables for a knockabout watch?

After the event I know, but the Smiths is ideal. It's meant to be worn, and with a decent water resistance and robust construction there is no reason it couldn't be worn anywhere. I don't subscribe to the view that a watch can be worn carelessly, literally beaten. Nothing deserves that!
