Re: Orient now operates in the UK

If they made the orient star series (especially the one Martin shows) without the power reserve indicator, or a bambino without the Rothmans fag packet emblem I'd be in the market.
but then we can't all have what we want....sadly.

Re: Tissot deployment strap.

Glad you've found a solution. Shame Tissot cheaped out though. The best deployments by far (IMO) are the Omega type. No metal against the wrist, only the leather strap ***. Next to no wear and tear putting them on/taking them off: much easier on/off and very comfortable to wear. Downsides - the Omeg...

Re: Tissot deployment strap.

Some deployment clasps are just a friction fit, with no release buttons. They are normally the cheap ones though. They can be very stiff to open as a result - I tried some cheap ones that needed to be prised open with a screwdriver. *** Are you certain that the other end doesn't open, and it isn't a...

Re: Help! Bulova Claremont movement

Pretty sure you will be out of luck with most general watchmakers, unless they are authorised Bulova repairers. Many quartz watches use generic movements, but this is I think a P102 movement which is proprietary to Bulova (actually made by Citizen, which owns Bulova). My understanding is there are n...

Re: Iguanasell - thoughts etc

I've got a shipment from Spain (not a watch) that hasn't moved according to the tracking for 8 days now.

I's somewhere between Seur Internacional Express in Spain, and DPD in the UK, but goodness know where...

Re: Iguanasell - thoughts etc

I've bought 2 watches from them. Both Junghans - a Max Bill 3 hander, and a Junghans Meister manual wind. Prices on both were the most competitive I found at the time. They are in the EU, and as the UK is still temporarily trading under EU terms, Spanish VAT is included in the price; so the price yo...

Agree - love the style, but would never buy one for that reason.

I guess it's largely forced on them by the size of the movement they've chosen to use.

Re: Junghans Meister Kalendar Watch In Blue..

I do like a Junghans :) https://live.staticflickr.com/7902/46613560365_3fd65d5b49_c.jpg Agreed...for anyone who really needs the functions of a chronograph, that one looks particularly nice - especially with the black dial - although some (insert more or less any famous other maker at several times...

Re: Junghans Meister Kalendar Watch In Blue..

I have the no-date/small seconds Meister. Dark blue/Indigo colour dial. 027.3504 model. It's smaller than that one - think about 38mm, but appears a bit larger because of the very thin bezel. Less than 8mm thick. Beautiful watch. Peseux/ETA 7001 movement, blued screws etc.. On the wrist about +2/day...

Re: Miyota movement accuracy query

H0rati0...I fear we are in grave danger of being in agreement  I'd buy - and have bought - watches with both eta 28nn and Miyota 9nnn movements. I think they are often dismissed by some enthusiasts just because of their lack of exclusivity - but they are very very good movements - to the point...

Re: Miyota movement accuracy query

Back to the OP's issue, and put aside the pricing discussions ! If it were me, I'd look for any evidence you have that the manufacturer claims the performance to be equivalent to the eta 2824 elabore movement. If you can't find any, you might be out of luck on that score. The easiest solution I thin...

Re: Miyota movement accuracy query

Cousins UK quick check: Miyota 9130 £125 ETA 2824.2 £121.95 YMMV of course! I fully agree that the Miyota 9130 is not directly comparable to the ETA 2824 (nor is the spec as tight) but that was the original proposition. When I saw those headline prices you found at Cousins I thought wow ! even with...

Re: Miyota movement accuracy query

Your watch may not be accurate, but it may be precise (there is a difference !) If it performs to a similar level in all postions, then it is precise, and can be made accurate just by a fairly simple regulation. The quickest way to check this is to use a timing machine - the long way is to do a 24hr...

Re: Orient almost got it right! 36mm Bambino

I really do want to like Orient watches - they have some very attractive designs, good price/value propositions, and the movements seem like they are well made. Only thing that stops me from buying is that I can't get past the cheap-looking crest/emblem that looks like it should belong more on a cig...

Re: Regulating My ETA 2824-2

...any type of watch timing device is best avoided if you are even slightly OCD. They WILL drive you nuts :problem: I was chatting with my piano tuner a few weeks ago. He will never listen to piano music because all he can do is listen for the faults. Like any mechanical watch, no perfect piano tuni...
