Re: New Monta Ocean King
I like Monta, and it’s clear the brand has watch enthusiasts behind it, but I’m not a fan of this Gen 3 travel direction. I’m on record as adoring the Gen 1 Oceanking - certain aspects (domed crystal, bracelet, finishing) are better (or at least subjectively more preferable) than my 114060 Rolex Sub...

Re: Monta Atlas
I have a Gen 1 Oceanking with the 65-hour power reserve (and broken date!) Eterna movement, no crown guards and lovely domed crystal. They had major & expensive teething problems with that Eterna movement - since solved by switching to Sellita - and the clasp has been improved since too, with ‘n...

Re: Furlan Marri
I had their ‘Tasti Tondi’ model for a while last weekend - a friend brought one round that they’d bought - and I was very impressed, especially at the Kickstarter price point. Very classy and looked/felt much more expensive than it was. Especially liked the double-domed sapphire crystal, the case fi...

Re: C65 Chronograph - New Release October '20
Good work CW, building upon the Super Compressor and C60 Chronograph & Sapphire releases. Might be one to pick-up in the future. Can't find anything much to fault with the design (which is rarely something I can say with CW). Love the bright colour flourishes. Looks great on the camel leather st...

Trusty CWC G10 for a beach walk earlier.

Re: "Crown Sore"???
Yes, I've had that quite a lot from my C60 v2's. The v2 crown did have quite sharp edges which were radiussed off as part of the v2.5 facelift C60 Yep, one of the reasons I sold my C6O Mk2, along-with the deep-engraved case back also irritating my wrist. Perhaps I'm just soft. I suspect the fit/pos...

Re: Getting old and liking gold....
That Hamilton is an absolute cracker, especially on the Martu leather. Perfectly-sized, and with a gorgeous patina & lived-in look that's hard to fake (but that doesn't stop many brands trying nowadays with their vintage re-issues). On the subject of gold, I really enjoyed this article from Hodi...

Re: Watch Brand Warranties
Excellent thread, thanks. I'd been pondering this very topic recently and it's informative to compare them all against each other in one place. Seems strange to think that when CW first offered their lengthy warranty it was quite unusual, but the general 'arms race' since has inspired other brands t...

Re: Misery seeking company
Yep, I feel your pain - dropping a new watch like that is a veritable kick in the plums. My most galling was a not-long-purchased Rolex Submariner accident. The clasp had a subtly-pleasing brushed finish that was both warm & uniform in appearance, until one day when I carelessly reached for some...

Re: Getting old and liking gold....
There’s something alluring about precious metals. I always feel a bit special when sporting my solid gold Omega Geneve, even though it’s small & 9ct only. Partly it’s an illogical, emotional thing, but maybe also because gold is such a departure from the daily ‘bread’n’butter’ of stainless steel...

Re: Three watches you're proud to own -- for which you paid less than £600!
Good idea for a thread. In the Instagram age it’s sometimes easy to forget that money isn’t everything when it comes to enjoying hobbies, and life as a whole. There’s much pleasure to be found in the small things. https://i.imgur.com/peZppcM.jpg Omega Geneve A 1970’s solid 9ct Gold example that – mo...

Re: Date Options
For me, no date is preferable.
A cleaner, more symmetric look; less to go wrong; no worries about setting at the ‘wrong’ time and damaging the date mechanism; quicker to set the time only in the morning (I rarely wear a watch longer than two consecutive days).

Re: Non CW of the Day
Which clasp did you go for on the bracelet? https://i.imgur.com/EuEhVrA.jpg Just the standard Oysterlock-style. Contemplated the ‘no tools’ ratchet clasp version - I think they are a huge benefit - but I’ll freely admit making my choice because it was £20-£30 cheaper, and I wasn’t sure of quality a...

Re: Non CW of the Day
Trying a new Strapcode Miltat bracelet on the Black Bay - undoubtedly not as good as OEM Tudor, but enjoyable to experience a look other than leather/NATO.
