CW Aviator versus Fortis

Post by phubbard »

A short writeup on a borrowed Fortis, with some notes about adjusting the 2824-2.

Thanks Paul for this excellent review, you beat me to it! By coincidence I own both watches, the Fortis Flieger and the CW Aviator, and I was planning to compare them some day. For the most part I agree with your findings.

Here's a pic of my Flieger:

In the future I'll add some of my own thoughts and finding on the CW/Fortis comparison!

I'll be very curious to hear from you, as I only had a couple of days. Yours looks very similar modulo the 'limited edition' on the dial.

Hans, are your hour markings missing lume at the ends like the one in phubbard's review? In the photo in his review, it looks so consistent that it appears that maybe it is intentional that there is no lume at the end. But in the photo of yours, it looks like the lume completely covers the markers. Of course, the photo of yours is not a close-up shot, so maybe I am just not seeing it. So I am wondering, is the one he reviewed suffering from a quality control issue, or is it designed that way?

Thanks.

The lume of mine completely covers the markers. Paul, how old was the Flieger? It could be an aging-issue?

Age uncertain...

Less than five years, not sure. The owner is out of town, so I'll ask when he gets back.

And yeah, it's consistent all around the dial, and looks like a miscalibrated application of lume. Really annoying.
