C5 Slimline Square Review

Post by eggtronics »

The C5 Malvern is the longest running model in the Christopher Ward lineup: it was their very first model. Throughout the years, it’s has a few upgrades and face lifts, and also some extra models. I reviewed the C5 Slimline last year, which housed a hand-wind only ETA2801 movement to keep it thin. Now, the C5 family is expanding once more, and it’s changing more than just the movement or dimensions. The ever-present round case is being replaced for a rounded square in, you’ve guessed it, the C5 Slimline Square.

Costing £399 on leather, or £475 on a fine-knit stainless steel Milanese bracelet, the C5 Square is available in either a matt white or sunray blue dial. With the increase in popularity of retro inspired timepieces, I think it’s a good time for the C5 Square. Let’s take a look to see if it’s a good deal or not.

Hey Josh, how did you like the mesh bracelet? From reading your review, it seems like it is fully polished, which would be pretty flashy (like Breitling) no ?

Excellent review Josh. I still prefer the blue dial myself. I also like how the mesh bracelet matches your jacket!

Despite not being your personal preference, it looks good on your wrist.

Great review and photos as ever Josh.

I've been a doubter of this since the pics were released but now I'm thinking twice.

Good review as always. This watch seems to change my opinion every time I see it. One to handle in person I think before a true judgement can be made.

Great photos.

Hmm. I have to say the mesh strap's connection to the lugs doesn't look as ill-fitting as in the earlier facebook photo. Maybe it was just that that woman's wrist was much too small for the watch, which made the overall appearance just ugly and out of proportion.

I still prefer the watch on leather. Won't say I love this watch, but it's not as horrible as that first FB photo made it appear - so long as you don't have skinny wrists.

PS. Nice movement decoration - it makes so much difference when you have a display back!

Although the watch is not to my personal taste - particularly the white/mesh combo - I think it's a worthy addition to the range, and something a bit different compared to what other brands are doing. It also looks good value, compared to other watches at a similar price point.

The review and pictures are high quality.

Excellent review Josh.

It certainly is growing on me every time i see it. The blue looks better and would like to see other colours come soon. I agree with others in that the decoration on the movement makes a huge difference to the overall likability to me and wish they would supply these with all crystal caseback models including my C5 slim. :(

If a limited edition purple C5 square is added i could be tempted.

An excellent review enabling me to see this watch in a somewhat different light than previously.

It certainly does not seem as large as I thought and is exceedingly well priced.

Pushed to choose, I would prefer the blue dial.

I do dislike mesh bracelets though.

Great review. I also prefer the blue dial. How big are your wrists BTW just so I can gauge the size. Thanks!

That looks really tempting! I find sizes hard to gauge on square watches - how big does it wear?

I've been thinking about this watch more and more. The blue dial with the black band would be my first choice.
