Stuff of the seventies

Post by missF »

Does anyone remember Sodastream?
We had one when I was wee. It was a contraption that carbonated bottles of water. You then added sugary syrup that was supposed to make it taste like cola :D

Well they seem to be back in fashion but upgraded to ‘healthy living contraption that makes sparkling water’
I’ve just bought one. I don’t like plain water and so I end up drinking so much sugar it’s ridiculous. But I do like fizzy water. I think it’s going to be a good thing

Anyone want to add any ancient contraptions or appliances here?? I’m just remembering my mum’s twin tub washing machine with the giant wooden tongs you used for hauling the laundry from one tub over into the other

If you want to cut down your sugar intake, try sodastreaming vodka or gin😉

Well, sugar-free sparkling water comes very economically in 2 litre bottles at Aldi: can't speak for Lidl.

Oh the old twin tub with the big wooden tongs: flashback time!

Other 70s gizmos? The kitchen environment has a rich heritage and having married in the 70's I suppose we had a moderate collection including

Fondue sets for melting cheese etc,

Oven bricks,

Yoghurt makers

Electric knives,

I'd think a saunter through any charity shop/thrift store would provide ample samples!
C60 MKI, MKII, MKIII: "some",
C6 & C60 Kingfishers,
C600 Tritechs,
C63 "some",
C65 "some",
C4, C40, C8, C9, C3, C5, C20 & 23FLE
Some other brands

Using DIN plugs to connect our HMV radiogram to my ITT-KB radio-cassette so that I could compile tapes from records to take to university. I was envious of my uncle’s Sony Music Centre!

Never mind Sodastream. My dad waltzed in one day with a shiny red Sparklets soda siphon, and thought himself most sophisticated to be able to offer people whisky or brandy with a splash. Then he bought some cut-glass tumblers. Mum was not too impressed!

I was a child in the 70’s so I really really wanted a soda stream for Christmas. Sadly my parents didn’t agree and felt they would be an overpriced novelty and I never had one. Interestingly now I brew my own beer and dispense it from a small keg, soda stream bottles of carbon dioxide are one again on my radar, as the little metal canisters run out quite quickly.

The other 70’s thing I really really wanted, but again never had was a Mr Frosty.

What about vinyl seats in cars that if exposed to sunlight became hotter than the sun itself and could remove skin from small children’s legs within minutes on a hot summers day in 1976.
