^^^^ Cheers Richard.

It was the angular cylinder heads that shouted Moto Guzzi to me. Back in the early '80s I coveted, and briefly test rode, the 850 Le Mans.

30,000 miles pa on a bike? That's a lot in a car, but on a bike? Wow! - I accept though that will be with a myriad of different riders.

As scooter says; kudos to you and your fellow riders for being out in all weather.

Guy

We've had some unseasonably warm weather for the past week. Warm enough that the snow is mostly gone from the roads, and the snow on the trails was just right for riding without studs or fat tires. It was a perfect excuse to take my new gravel bike out for a shakedown ride, and get the brakes bedded in. Temperatures are dropping back down to seasonal this week. I really can't wait for spring. For now, back to the trainer in the basement.

First large(ish) group ride of the year, up through the peak district and Snake Pass to Glossop. After that I have no idea where we went, but the roads were good! :)

We had a recent warm spell (it's back to -25 Celsius right now) so I took advantage of the warm spring-like days and took my new gravel bike out for a shakedown ride. There is gravel somewhere under that snow.

It was such a lovely afternoon that I had to go for a little ride on The Monkey. When that sun went down though it soon got chilly.

Just got home and glanced at the mileometer.

I won't be seeing 4 digits there anymore.

What a cracking little ride The Monkey is.

^^^ Great milestone, Scooter. Out of curiosity I just looked at the Monkey ads on Autotrader. There's only a single bike available in the country with your sort of mileage on it (2019/69 Plate with 12k). The rest are really low mileage. The good news is there seems to be an incredibly small price penalty for the mileage, so from that point of view (irrelevant, I know), crack on and enjoy!

Thanks downer.

I vowed to myself when I bought it that I wanted to enjoy it fully and not to be afraid of putting on the miles.

That said The Monkey looks as good as the day that I bought it because I am a fair weather rider.

So many Monkeys seem to have very small mileages which seems rather sad to me.

It applies to all categories of bike as far as I can tell. There are any number of 3 year old big touring bikes with 5 or 6k miles on them. The cost of ownership must be significant on a £ per mile basis. Makes you wonder why people buy ‘em but each to their own, I guess.

@downer Absolutely. In the case of the Monkey I believe a lot of people buy them having seen the 'fun' reviews. For most they would not be suitable for a one only motorbike and I think a lot of people regret buying them after the honeymoon period ends.
