Quality Man wrote: Tue Nov 01, 2022 4:43 pm You know when the ‘maisons’ describe their watches as ‘novelties’, (makes me wince), I think this fit’s that description perfectly. A novelty that CW should be congratulated on.
I suspect that’s because “novelty” in English creates a kind of “latest craze, here today, gone tomorrow, cheap and cheerful” image that “nouveauté” doesn’t have in French, where it’s more like the equivalent of “innovation”. Of course, all the words are derived ultimately from the Latin “novus” (new).
I think they are just imitating how Omega introduces their new watches each year with the word “Novelties…” 🤷‍♂️

Listening to the little ding sound on the CW website that I will apparently hear somewhere between -20/+20 seconds before or after the hour, has motivated me to research the hourly signal ding on my G-shock. In 15 minutes I will know if I will have saved myself $3,595. Fingers crossed my G-shock steps up to the plate and does a good ding. :D

Both my "dingers" a casioak and a vintage seiko ding on the hour exactly. No silly bird 🐦 either.
But then it's quartz 🤔 so utterly wrong to compare

Fully agree. Very impressive. Love the ‘bird’. Would very much like to see it in the metal, but that is highly unlikely.

What’s the bird everyone keeps referencing? What am I missing?

If you look at the bottom right of the dial, you see what looks like a bird with a red beak (and jewel for a eye), and the body extends across the dial to the left, with the hammer (for the bell sound) forming its tail :D

Once you see it, you can't unsee it and it's really rather lovely 8)

When the red "beak" is up (as per the photo), it means the chime is on (little squiggle mark next to the beak), and when the 4 o'clock pusher is used, it will toggle the beak down, and then the chime is off... and vice versa.

Mike France referred to it as a "songbird" in the preview presentation

Haha! Totally missed that, and yes, I can’t unsee it now. I love it! I must have either missed the reference during the preview or didn’t understand what he meant.

He might not have mentioned it in every preview (I was in on Friday afternoon), but yes it's really lovely

Sorry. It won't do a good ding. More of a sad and tragic beep. First thing I've done on any Casio I've ever owned is to turn off the beep.

That must have been a short gig - the link to Bel Canto leads to this page - already sold out - but if so, it went very fast

Totally agree, I've always applied the same philosophy

They stated in the preview that they applied their standard mark up to these, so I think they've still done rather well
