A Birthday Surprise

Post by Kip »

Many of you are aware that I celebrated my 70th birthday a couple weeks ago.

Well it seemed that the Admin Team and CW had a bit of a surprise for me. This comes with a bit of an amusing story that I would like to share.

A long story short…..

Like many of you, back in March I preordered the C63 to help support the cause.

Knowing full well that the C63 UK’s were shipping, about 10 days ago I received a notice from DHL that a clearance event had happened and that I needed to fill out the paperwork. I paid little notice to the labels and simply stated they had all the info. They said no so I contacted CW and they took care of it.

Anyway, paperwork issue solved and shipment arrived on the 22nd. I opened it up and discovered a beautiful C65 Aquitaine GMT (C65-41ADA2-S0BE0-B0). A $00.00 invoice was enclosed with no notes whatsoever!

Now I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I didn’t order this and thought someone might catch hell for this mistake. I reached out to CW over the weekend explaining everything and to investigate. I even offered to pay as I didn’t want anyone in trouble for an error.

CW got back to me on a Tueusday with the explanation that my C63 Ukraine will be shipping soon. More importantly I am informed me that the C65 Aquitaine GMT is a gift, a birthday gift from my Admin Team!!

I was stunned!!

Now, unfortunately, on the morning I find out, I am extremely pressed for time as I must get to the to some early appointments and would be gone all day. So, I get home late Wednesday evening and mention to my wife Chrissy about the watch explanation and that my team must think me an extremely ungrateful person or at the very least be wondering what the hell!! It has been over 2 weeks since his birthday!

Finally, the next morning, with a few minutes to spare, sitting next to me is a beautiful C63 Aquitaine GMT. It is still in the box, although the box now open, and watch still wrapped, as I did not want to remove if returning. I finally put together a proper Thank you to the Admin Team. I promised upon returning that afternoon I would be sizing and get some photos to them.

As I said, I was and am still stunned at this beautiful gift. Of course, I say that they shouldn’t have done this, but I am really going to enjoy this watch. Such a fantastic gesture and wonderful surprise that shall always remind me of what a great team that I work with.

I apologized and was embarrassed for the delayed Thank You and words of appreciation, but I did not know what was going on and wanted to do the right thing. Anyway…it is here…I love it.

I want to publicly thank my Admin Team, Amor Vincit Omnia, Bahnstormer_vRS, welshlad and downer. I want to also thank Mike France at CW for his part in this surprise and my I cannot forget my wife Chrissy for her contributions. Thank you all!!!

That's an extremely thoughtful and generous gift by all concerned. :D I wonder if you had ever expressed a preference for the white with blue bezel variation, Kip? It certainly looks an excellent option in your photo.
