NationOfLaws SOTC - June 2022

Post by NationOfLaws »

Since things have leveled off a bit, here is my collection as of June 2022. I'll present them in the order in which I acquired them.

Image
This is a Tudor Submariner Prince Date that my father bought me as a college graduation gift. I had watches before this, but they were Timexes or other inexpensive quartz pieces. I wore this watch daily for years until I understood how much it was worth after Tudor stopped making Submariners. I got it serviced and wear it for special occasions now. The bracelet was resized at some point and regretfully I am missing a couple links that I wish I could put back in.

Image
This is a Bulova C960462 that I bought myself when I got my first job out of college. Someone once told me they bought a watch for each new job they got. I liked the sound of that so I bought the most expensive one I could afford. I was working at a startup so I couldn't afford much. I also can't find the links to this bracelet, and now it's too small to wear. I have gotten better about retaining links.

Image
My father bought me this weird vintage Benrus on a whim a few years ago. It's an interesting piece with a weird crystal, but it's very small so I don't wear it very often.

Image
I bought myself this vintage Omega Seamaster to commemorate my first true management role. It's also a little small, but I don't think I can ever part with it since it was the watch I was wearing when my daughter was born. In fact, I rushed to the hospital and didn't get a chance to set it. I remember distinctly being in the labor room and thinking "I ought to set this watch so I know what time it is when she's born." It's a good thing I did because she was born moments later.

Image
My wife bought me this funky Russian field watch. I know nothing about it. I hate the NATO strap (ironic) that it came on and will eventually replace it.

Image
This white C63 Sealander GMT was technically the second Christopher Ward watch I purchased, but the first one I received. I've got it here on an Under The Cuff rubber strap.

Image
I heard on a Teddy Baldassarre video that an incredible little watch brand called Monta was making some great pieces, and he casually dropped in that they're based in Saint Louis, MO. That's where I grew up! I needed to get one and found this Atlas GMT second hand on Reddit. I intended it to compete with the Sealander but I liked them both so much that they're both in the collection now.

Image
This is the first Christopher Ward watch I bought. I instantly fell in love with the vivid blue and the vintage styling. It took a while to arrive since it was a pre-order, but I was as impressed with it in person as I was when I bought it online. It has my children's initials engraved on the back.

Image
I got this Oris Artelier on Reddit to be my dress watch. I love the intricate dial but haven't really connected with it yet. In a subsequent SOTC this is the piece most likely to be missing.

Image
This sapphire C63 Sealander LE landed yesterday and I was amazed by it. It's a stunning piece and I feel very lucky I was able to snag a mint piece on the secondary market.

I’ll try and upload them with the forum’s image functionality. I didn’t upload them there the first time because they always rotate weird. I know there’s a way to fix it but it feels a lot like work.

Great collection you have there, thanks for sharing. I particularly enjoyed the story behind each watch.

Thanks mate, sorry to be a pain.
Vintage Omega is stunning.
Been a Monta fan for years, import charges always put me off.

A really nice collection. I like that you have them in the order.
I am a fan of watches with a "Submariner" connection and the Tudor is 'Outstanding' but for me that Bulova just looks sub-lime

Nice collection. I love the Benrus!

Your weird Russian watch looks like it comes from the First Moscow Watch Factory. This was the main plant for Poljot, I believe.

Not sure about the Kirov reference on the dial but it may have been Kirov Street - Ul(itsa) Kyrova. That’s a guess, my Russian isn’t very good.

Great collection, love the Tudor it's a shame it doesn't get worn often. Watches are ment to be worn .
Like the white sealander and think it works well on the Sailcloth strap.
Not seen the LE before but looks a nice accusation. With all the inns lately looking forward to see how this collection develops, now you are well and truly down the rabbit hole

An interesting collection, with some cool looking watches.

However I see a problem! :problem:

The evidence is there for all to see. Proof positive that….

Joining a watch forum tends to lead to buying many more watches in a short period of time.

Doubling the collection from 5 to 10 in the 6 weeks you have been here! :)

How good! It's great to see things which are, as they say, "beyond my ken" so watches which which have never - for a myriad completely legitimate reasons - have never been on my radar.

A nice and different collection there, we’ll done. The Sub is ace and looks almost brand new. The Benarus is very unique, don’t ever break that crystal. Really like the weird Russian watch with its numerals and onion crown.

You seem to have an issue with links. ‘I am the missing link’ could be a good signature for you.

When I was younger and had these watches I didn’t really understand how difficult it’d be to replace links I’d lost. I’ve also moved a dozen or so times so things were bound to get lost.

I’ll probably try and find a couple replacement links someplace. Recommendations are welcome!

Nice collection. The Tudor Sub & the Oris Artelier are the picks for me, but I am a bit of an Oris fan.

The “Other Brands” section of this forum has been a terrific source of interesting brands to investigate as you seems to be finding out? Fun, isn’t it?
