Thanks Iain. Wow I am surprised the newer one is even thinner. I didnt realise. I think it is the lug to lug that makes all the difference at 47 v 50 mm. Whichever version it may be they all have something to offer with not a little history behind them.iain wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 7:04 pmExcellent pick up there, looks fantastic. Interesting that this fits you better than the MKXVIII which is only 40mm diameter to the MKXVI 39mm. The newer version is also half a mm thinner at 11mm and compared to all my other watches seems incredibly thin.
I think the lug to lug on this is a few mm smaller though. It’s 50mm on the MKXVIII which doesn’t help.
Just shows how those tiny differences can completely make or break a watch. Enjoy wearing it.

Re: Non CW of the Day
Thanks Neil.
A great explorer alternative I would say. I would also say I find it wears smaller than my old (Nigels) 39mm explorer even though on paper they should be very close. Also when you say impulsive did you really mean decisive
Cheers now, Paul
Re: Non CW of the Day
^^^ ok then, let’s go for decisively impulsive.

If you can’t even decide what adjective you want and have to question it, then I think that solves this conundrum....

Not worn this since the IWC spitfire came back from service but Stefs has inspired me this morning.

5/34 : Citizen Signature AV3006-09E Moonphase
This beauty has her own story. I originally became aware of the model in a FB group and was not at all enthusiastic about the design at first, as the dial seemed too playful to me. But the more I watched them, the more I liked them.
The model dates from October 2017 and was no longer available new, especially if at all then only from the USA or Japan. So I looked for a cheap offer for a long time and finally found it on ebay in January of this year. The price was ok and the condition on the pictures seemed ok.
When it finally arrived after two weeks, the disillusionment was great. The bezel was pretty battered and the crystal had a crack at 7 o'clock. I then first looked around for spare parts, because I really wanted to keep the watch, and sending a used watch back to the USA seemed hopeless to me.
I was able to order a replacement crystal from Citizen, albeit with a delivery time of 2-3 months. The bezel could theoretically have been ordered, but Citizen Germany refused to order extra parts for a US model in Japan.
After the facts were on the table, I wrote to the seller in the US and asked him about the condition of the watch. He then reimbursed me half of the purchase price without much discussion, which I considered to be fair.
I then ordered a new crystal from a German dealer and then waited several weeks until it arrived in March.
In the meantime I ordered a new leather strap with a matching two-tone clasp from Mastersintime, as the original leather strap was already very worn.
Now there was the bezel - which, as can be seen in a picture, looked very ugly. A while ago I was able to find a very nice watchmaker in the neighboring town who had already prepared a few watches for me. So I brought him the watch and glass and was able to pick it up again yesterday.
I am more than satisfied with the result and apart from a small dent at 11 o'clock (which does not go away) the watch now looks almost new.
All in all, it was a good purchase that I have no regrets.
But the watch still has one special feature, which makes it quite unique - I'm curious who discovers it and writes in the comments

Both are lovely.

Re: Non CW of the Day
Starting the day off w/ a Day Date...the inky black dial compliments its' look nicely, imo..
