The watch was based on one worn by lupins right hand man in the original cartoon

I guess so, just slightly disturbing to my brain.

Sorry, I love and have the utmost respect for Zenith as a brand, I own one. But this seems as though a designer somewhere just ran out of ideas. Obviously not everyone agrees with me. Variety is the spice of life. But I’m with Steve on this. Without a reason, I just can’t get there.

^^^^ I agree, and not just with you on this watch, but many of the recent Zenith revival watches.

If you look at vintage watches from many brands they tend be fairly classic and timeless, they look good now and still will in 10-20 years time. Whereas I feel many vintage Zenith watches look very dated and of the time they were made. Some people like this design direction in a modern reissue, I personally don’t and wouldn’t own an original 1970s birth year watch as I don’t like most of them. I can’t see the appeal in making a reissue of something that I feel will look out of date in the not to distant future as designs move on.

"Popcorn time" on a day dreaming watch is rare indeed and I'm loving this.
Whether you "get it" or not, it's about what speaks to you and that is one of the great things about this passion we share.

Chris I think that I am on the same page as you.

I certainly think that Zenith, more than any other brand, have got it spot on with their Revival watches.

May be an age thing!

Or perhaps the thought that too much of the modern stuff that brands churn out is from the “look at me” school of watch design, intended to attract those that bang on about wrist presence and like a watch to be noticed. Subtle and classic is often better. :)

PS: I do though think that the mashed up version of the Lupin series is a step too far.

Haha! You’re right - it’s a rare thing to so completely divide the camp. But it’s not a watch that prompts responses like:
Beautiful- I’d love one but I’m not that keen on the lugs...

I think with this one it’s just a case of love it or absolutely don’t. I’m certainly not saying that ‘I get it’ and ‘you don’t’. I don’t get it, and am not really interested in the manga connection. It just gives me an instant, internal, powerful smile - for its cheekiness and audacity and playfulness I think. I like it when anything buzzes me like that. :D

Yep. I'll leave the Flash the Trash to overpaid rockstars and footballers. In the end no-one really cares what's on your wrist but you (save the low-life who would mug you for something of known high value). The work you put in to acquire it, the enjoyment you get from it, the meaning it might represent.

For me it's all about a piece that makes me smile today and in five years and....you get my drift. They will always be the best ones. For me too that is usually something more subtle and classic, for someone else perhaps a thing of eternal wonder. You gotta love that about this game we play.

I find this new release from Tag Heuer quite compelling.
All the functionality of a high end smart watch but wrapped in a proper watch case with a proper bracelet and traditional mechanical tag watch faces.

Breitling Chrono Cockpit - subtle but rather gorgeous two-tone.
