CW Tropic Straps

Post by jkbarnes »

Can someone tell me if the CW tropic strap has the small ventilation holes in the strap like some other tropic straps have as seen in the attached pic?

Thank you for the quick response and the included pic! You’re happy with them, I assume? Are the reasonably pliable or stiff?

Sure thing! I'm very happy with them, plus they were 15% off during the pre Black Friday sale a month ago. They are very supple, I believe they're made from FKM rubber and being fairly thin they are comfortable right out of the box. But they are for sure a contemporary take rather than a true vintage replica of the original Tropic strap, hence no vent holes. Also, as I mentioned to you previously, they only come in 22mm size, at least last I looked. Also, most other tropic straps I've seen or purchased do not have quick release spring bars, which really pushed me to buy the CW versions (well, that and the 15% off).
Best regards,
John

That’s exactly what I find most appealing about these. One does get spoiled by quick release pins! It’s also nice to hear that they are thin and pliable. If I picked one up, it would bounce between my C65 AM GT and my Seiko Sea Urchin.

I might just wait for the next sale.

I discussed the CW Tropical strap with Declan @ CW on my Virtual Showroom appointment the other day.

They are essentially a CW Hybrid strap without the top face of Cordura, which gives them the opportunity to be even softer and more flexible (than the hybrid as the Cordura is relatively stiff).

They have the same longitudinal ribs on the underside too (which I can't get on with).

All round though an excellent strap.

One thing I should mention: the blue tropic strap is lighter in color than what the stock pictures on the CW website suggest. The color is very close to the blue dial of the C65 Trident Diver / C65 Trident Automatic.

I have never owned a Hybrid strap but I can tell from the pictures that as Guy said, it is essentially the same thing but all rubber.

John

Is that a comfort issue or an appearance issue, Guy?

And thank you all for the continuing feedback.

Comfort.

They dig into the sides of my wrist, even when done up loosely.

Andrew & Guy,

I just received an email from Moosestrap (https://www.moosestrap.com/) introducing their new FKM rubber tropic straps in various colors, and with quick release spring bars. Seems like a good price for $30 although shipping will add to that. The underside is the traditional waffle style that most tropic straps have, not the CW pattern. Also, the strap has the ventilation holes. Comes in 20mm and 22mm although the lengths are on the longer side at 80mm for the buckle end and 130mm for the longer end. CW’s are 80mm and 124mm I believe.
Best regards,
John

Got my email from Moose too. Image

These seem perfect.

Often Tropical straps only come in 20mm, whereas most of my watches are 22mm, plus tend to be shorter at c. 75mm/115mm. The 80mm/130mm is spot on.

That they use FKM rubber is great. My Elliot Brown straps are FKM too and wear really well.

I might have to give these a go.
