I had a similar experience driving last year on holiday in Madeira on my first visit there. Anyone who has been there will know how steep everything is on the island. After smelling a burning clutch once or twice I took to making sure I had a plenty of revs before I started climbing any hills. Having 5 people and bags in a modest hire car didn't help!Thermexman wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 11:47 am ^^^ I can imagine. I drove a hired Vauxhall Meriva 1.5D over the Col-du-Tourmalet in the Pyrenees once. Stalled it on several hairpins as I’d never driven a diesel before! That was scary. Didn’t realise they had no power under 2500rpm when the turbo spins up. Once I cottoned on, we were fine. Revved the nuts off after that!

Love the bike but not so much the view of the Emirates!
Been considering a Cannondale Badboy for too long now as I think it is a great looking bike but also want something a little more retro.
Have looked at Pashley but never convinced - Will defo check out Tokyobike once stock availability in the bike world returns to normal.
Re: Post a picture from your latest ride
Yeah I was looking at the Cannondale Badboy too as it was the about the maximum on my Bikes To Work scheme but I live 5mins walk from the Tokyobike shop and it suits my use well enough (nipping to the shops or to see my mum with the occasional 45min commute).A1soknownas wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 9:30 pmLove the bike but not so much the view of the Emirates!

It’s a nice bike, nothing special to ride compared to my previous specialised but decent enough and I’ve had a surprising number of compliments while taking it out. The Pashley Guvnor was on my radar for years and I’ve always wanted a Bianchi but it would be wasted on my trips to m&s in a pair of timberlands

Riding waves in lieu of bikes...
Some spectacular weather here over the weekend so took the opportunity to go for a paddle from Speers Point to Marmong Point - shaving the northwestern corner of Lake Macquarie. My oldest son leading the way..
Looking back towards Speers Point
Reaching Marmong Point Marina ....
... and what does one expect to encounter after traversing the waters to distant lands?
Well Vikings obviously!..
Evidently a training session for the Newcastle Branch of the Viking Age Re-enactment Society. (I did not know we had one of those)
We could see people moving around energetically and the reflective glints off the steel hardware as we approached the land but we couldn't quite figure out what was going on until we got there.
Looking back towards where we had been at the end of the trip.

Vikings? In Australia? Really? How do you manage that.
Mind you, I was mildly disappointed having read your fist sentence, but not yet seen the photos, . . ..

Looks like a super day out though! Not sure I'd want to try it in choppier waters!

Yes, drawing a fairly long (Viking) bow calling them "waves" I guess! Probably should've said "riding the currents" rather than "waves"...
We were very surprised seeing the Viking Age re-enactment - totally unaware that sort of thing happens here. The Vikings haven't exactly played much of a role in Australian history..!
Perhaps they are expat Scandinavians or something?
