As I sit and watch the always depressing news and watch my country spiral out of control, my stress levels go through the roof!

And then I strap on my Miata MX-5, throw the top down, and all my cares just melt away!

This was just a quick run to the grocery store. I’ll go on a proper drive once the oppressive heat breaks.

Scooter, the pics from your rides fill me with envy. Having just turned 66, I’m being made redundant, after 32 years service. The package I will get should, hopefully, cover the cost to upgrade the house we are due to move to. I am about to sell my beloved rose gold / steel Aqua Terra and hope, if SWMBO allows, will get an ebike so can, hopefully, post some pictures of the very different, but beautiful, countryside where I have the pleasure to live.

OBO

Sorry to hear about your redundancy. I'm 67 and so pleased that I'm out of the workplace.

Buying the ebike was probably one of the best things I've purchased over the years and boy have I made some duff ones. I once bought a cross trainer for £450 and used it about 15 times. The extreme heat in the glass 'conservatory' ended up frying the electrics as it lay dormant, unused in the corner much to my wife's chagrin.

I'm nearing on 4000 miles in two years on the ebike and have had a bucket load of enjoyment from it.

Look forward to seeing your photographs if you do get one in the future.

best

It was so nice around 6pm this evening that I decided to take The Monkey out on a little 60 miler.

The first stop was quite close to home being Masbury Station. Masbury which was a small isolated station on the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway's main line between Evercreech Junction and Bath.

Thanks for the pics as well as the locations. We are
trying to plan a trip to your beautiful "sceptred isle" and this thread, with all of it's great photography, will be a great source of reference. Enjoy the monkey!
Time and money? I’ve spent most of mine on booze and women. The rest I just wasted…

The little MX5 certainly is a great escape when you get behind the wheel, especially in these testing times when distractions are much needed.

I have been making the most of this one now that the sun has finally made an appearance:

A three mile trip to the supermarket often becomes a 15 mile detour around the fabulous roads of North Devon.

I conveniently ignore the fact that there is just enough room in boot for sufficient food to feed an anorexic sparrow!!

Cheers,

Paul

Exactly! I’m lucky that a few country roads are within 5 or 10 minutes of this sprawling suburban hellscape I live in. Therapy, one mile at a time, as I chase the sun at dusk.

Yours looks to be in far better shape than mine. Mine is definitely a little worn around the edges, so to speak. No worries though, as it means I need not fret over it when in a parking lot and such.

Mine was a lucky find - bought untested and hiding under a thick layer of crud having sat in a barn unused for a number of months.

I trailered it home and was pleasantly surprised at what appeared after a good jet wash. Mechanically it needed PAS repair, exhaust and brakes after standing unused.

I actually bought it as a donor for a kit car but can't bring myself to rip it apart because its so nice.

I am therefore now looking for another one in, perversely, worse condition! These models really suffer with structural corrosion in the English climate with our propensity for smothering the roads in salt as soon as the temperature threatens to get anywhere near zero!

The picture of mine is flattering - it also falls into the category of not worrying too much where you park it!

What has really surprised me is the number of unsolicited positive comments it gets - they seem to be a car that puts a smile on people's faces and don't illicit the negativity of more expensive sports cars.

I suspect my wife is concerned that I may develop an MX5 habit like watches, after all that all started with just one.....

Long may we continue to enjoy them.

Cheers,
Paul
