Advice please - Hr hand sits mid between numerals

Post by Beam »

Hi all
Not been on forum for a while, err looks like years
However I have a 2009 CW forum watch, which for reasons don't know has issue with the Hour hand
At example 7am the minute hand at 12 noon, the hour hand sits between 6 and 7
Just happened
I guess maybe when been setting time, perhaps didn't take the stem out enough or something
Looking for how to correct, without having preferably to get it repaired by a watch maker
Appreciate any help

Time to send it to a watch maker, the hour hand could be loose on it's stem, or there is a different problem with the keyless works if the watch works otherwise normally. When you pull the crown all the way out for hand setting a different set of gears engage the minute wheel and rather than wind the watch you can move the hands directly. Usually this would be evident in the minute hand also not moving well. So hopefully it just needs a little nipping up on the post the hour hand sits on. You would do well to have it serviced at the same time.

I can't imagine the cost of fixing this would add much, if anything to the service cost...probably £120 or perhaps a bit less for the complete service.

If can for the hr hand.
I was sort of hoping I had done something, perhaps not pulled the crown out enough and could just reverse that
Looks like could be best to get to a watch repairer. It’s 10 years old so maybe due a service

The advice for a service is sound, particularly given the age and that you have a visible fault with the watch.

You clearly cherish the watch, so give it some love. :)

It'll come back to you with the 12 hour marker moved to 2.5 minutes so that it lines up.

I am not a watchmaker, but don't see how this could have happened while setting it. But I do concur, the watch is 10 years old, and by anyone's standards, due for a service. The hands are friction fit on the center stem so a possible knock could have caused this. No matter they will be removed as part of a routine service and any competent watchmaker should be able to correct it. Good luck and keep us posted.

This happened recently to the GMT hand on my Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro GMT. It was still under the guarantee so I returned it to CW, who repaired it.

I think the only possible way this could happen is by a hand coming loose or moving from a shock. A watchmaker should be able to take the movement out and move the hand back for a reasonable price.

I’d go to a reputable local shop. Too many problems with CW right now to trust that you won’t get a blueberry pie returned instead of your watch. Or they’ll package it such that it bangs around inside the clamshell.

Thanks for suggestions - There is a local guy who has looked at stuff for me in the past - Ill get along there soon. I suspect the note about shock probably correct. Though don't remember doing it - I do Archery and may have had watch on (Though normally remove)
