Hands-On: A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Thin Blue Copper

Post by gaf1958 »

This year’s SIHH showed many new trends, but the one that stuck out to me the most was the emphasis on interesting ladies’ watches (unless I have just tempered my expectations, which is likely). Regardless, there was one thing in particular that I noticed over and over, and that was special dial or case treatments. One great example is the A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Thin Blue Copper. This watch was totally out of left field, but made quite an impact upon first sight.

Now i didn't like the 595 because it didn't have a seconds hand but i like this upon initial sight, does the dial make up for no seconds hand or am i just liking it more and forgiving it more because it is a ALS ?

Eddings, Pratchett, who next? heinlein, E.E. "DoC" Smith or even McGaffery? Surely not McGaffery, please.

No, apart from "grok" from Heinlein, the others are not on my quotable list... certainly not McCaffrey... ;)

Maybe Roger Zelazny would also make my list...

when you have a new watch which is the current love of your life do you ever feel just a little bit self-conscious because you stare at the watch for longer than the split second it really takes to tell the time?? or do you check the time more often than you need to just because you want to take another look??

this watch is so beautiful and captivating i can imagine sitting on a bus just staring at it entranced while people around start to stare at me!
watching you fail in your quest for a “one watch” has been great entertainment

There are some watches that I've owned for quite some time that get that same reaction from me. Case, bracelet, crystal etc all have to be good, but it's the dial and hands that captivate me nine times out of ten.

That one would do the job nicely...

I'll say it: i like it, but at the same time find it a bit gimmicky.
