Perlon straps

Post by Aifo »

I have purchased a few perlon recently and rather like them, they are cheap, comfortable to wear like nato and work particular well with vintage. Wonder if other forumates have tried them?

Here's my Fortis on an orange perlon

looks great on your fortis aifo!
i too like perlon straps, and sometimes wear my C11 on a powder blue perlon. i love the fact that they fit! none of my leather straps fit well, and always seem to stretch a bit and end up sagging.
i think that the bright coloured perlon straps work best for a good look 8)

I haven't looked at perlon before but have to say that does look like a dressy nato. The bright orange looks great. Any brand in particular?

Thanks MissF, it is true that perlon will fit any wrist size. Also agreed that bright color works best. ;)

Dressy nato is exactly how I would describe my experience with perlon, not as rugged or military as nato.

Afraid I don't have any brand name to share though, just picked mine up from a nearby watch shop which happened to stock a few.

Am I right in thinking, these straps fit the same way as NATOs?

They also seem to look neater.

It may the answer for me, as I don't like the double wrap around feature (if you understand what I mean) that most NATOs appear to have.

Lots of cheap Perlons, as you'd expect, on eBay.

I have tried a few, both the basic end and the better quality thicker weave ones from Eulit. I think they do look good with a range of watches - looks good with the Fortis Aifo.

I like the point that, unlike a NATO, there is no unnecessary hardware and that on the basic ones you can adjust the length via the buckle. However I think NATOs are more secure, the buckle/pin on the Perlons always looks a bit flimsy to me, which kind of defeats the object of me wearing them in water or for other outdoorsy stuff.

The Eulit ones seem to need breaking in, as I get a mark on my wrist that I don't get with a NATO.

Yep similar fit to NATOs, but no need for pre-punched holes, as you just pust the pin through a gap in the weave.

You can buy "RAF style" NATOs that are a single layer, or just cut off the bit you don't want.

I have a person on my Nomos. The optical illusion against a nato makes it wear better.

Well tell the person to get off, they'll damage it!

I like the look of a Perlon on a vintage style watch. I wear one all the time on my vintage Memovox alarm, and rotate one on my 1963 Chinese Air Force. Comfortable and infinitely adjustable, lightweight and breathable. What's not to love.

Thanks, I'll have to look into them.
