Greetings,

Great television dramas or just great television?

Some great series already mentioned and some of the boxed sets in our house include:

Silent Witness
Waking the dead
Luther
Yes Minister/Prime Minister
Blackadder
Porridge
Downton Abbey
Wallander

That's off the top of my head!

Is Faulty Towers the best comedy series written for TV?

Who was that young actress in The Thorn Birds?

I have not seen the Missing, I'm told I should.

Not sure about 10 Rillington Place but I will continue to watch.

No TV list would be complete without something from Richard Attenborough, simply brilliant.

I seem to have gone on a bit!

That's off the top of my head! Nothing to argue with there.

Is Faulty Towers the best comedy series written for TV? Certainly top five in my opinion.

Who was that young actress in The Thorn Birds? Rachel Ward.

I have not seen the Missing, I'm told I should. Neither have I.

Not sure about 10 Rillington Place but I will continue to watch. Not watching much at the moment.

I seem to have gone on a bit! Not really. Good post.
My take on much modern TV drama is that, although the effects can be amazing, the actors struggle to match the standards of the previous generation(s). Look at I, Claudius. The sets were rubbish, the FX non existent, the actors sublime. They had to be.

Spooks and Luther has to be up with the best series ever. Certainly as far as British tv is concerned. River was very compelling.
Otherwise, I have to confess to being an NCIS addict.
Nikita was entertaining, despite Maggie Q appearing in varying states of undress!!!
Sea Dweller, Seamaster & Aqua Terra, C9JH, C60, 3xC60 GMT, C60 Vintage, C8 Reg, C10 FLE, C9BDD, C5 BoB, C5 Slimline, 2015 FLE, Some others

That doesn't surprise me, only watched the first series + a few of series 2 and was bored senseless.

At the moment we have been watching 10 Rillington place , that seems to be good . One from the past , I think around 79/80 was a drama called Fox , ran for around 12/13 episodes , starred a very young Ray Winstone .

Very good series, I remember it well - Peter Vaughan played the patriarch character and Ray Winstone played one of the sons, a boxer. Ray is now very effective in advertising a particular brand!! (I'm pleased to say).

That's the one . It also starred Bernard Hill and Larry Lamb . Ray was a decent amateur boxer in his younger days , winning many bouts . He does play a bloody good villain

Yes he was a very good amateur boxer. One of his quotes: "If you can get in a ring with 2,000 people watching and be smacked around by another guy, then walking onstage isn't hard."

The Missing is not for me. Plot line too dark and convoluted.

Surprised that no one has mentioned the 'must see' series from about this time last year:-

The Night Manager.

(It was notable how often Hugh Laurie waved his rose gold IWC Big Pilot around. At least that's what it looked like).

One I almost forgot about was "The Newsroom" written by Aaron Sorkin.

I thought is one of the best written shows I have ever watched.

I remember being absolutely absorbed by "Cracker" with Robbie Coltrane.
More recently i was pleasantly surprised by "Spartacus" rude and crude, but I loved it.
Currently "The Walking Dead" is keeping me gripped.

Would have to agree with that. We only watched season 2 so think we need to watch season 1

I'd recommend the wire which unless i missed it didn't see on here.

I've just started watching Vikings on Amazon prime. Does anyone have any recommendations for prime TV?
